im not sure where to post this at so im gonna do it here also.
i need help or advice i should say on getting my crank pulley off. i got my transmission off and flywheel and all and i cant seem to get my pulley off the crank. i need this for my atx mtx swap. what should i do ?
i was thinking welding a socket to stay on the pulley bolt since ill have a spare one with the 3.2 engine but question still remains how to get it to come off? i tried to use a bar on the flywheel bolts to hold the crank still but i ended up messing up and stripped the first few threads which im not worried about i got a tap and die set.
any ideas guys?

well u will need a harmonic balancer(pulling kit) but the bolts wont match so u will need to go to a hardware store to find the right bolts (i got my bolts at AMERICAN BOLT COMPANY) but i dont know if there is one were u live do not strip the bolts because it will not be balanced later. it might take u more time but it will be done right.

The easiest way would have been to use this guide, Step #3, before you tore out the trans.

Aside from backtracking, try an impact, if that dont do it... then good luck..
others will respond.

Its been talked about many times before, all you need to do is use a 19mm wrench 6pt would be best or even a long ratchet with a 19mm on it. Take a 4-6' chunk of 4X4 or something, and put down your purse and smack it. :)

 Now is that nice?

2999, take a look at the flywheel end for a minute and see if you can come up with way to keep the flywheel from rotating in the clockwise direction (since you will be trying to rotate the other end in a counter-clockwise direction to get the bolt off. A small U-shaped piece of steel wedged against the notches of the flywheel perhaps. Or you could put a chain under one of the flywheel's bolts and then to a bolt on the cast iron block.

There is a special tool that is made that bolts to the two threaded holes in the harmonic dampener. It has a handle on it and a hole through its' middle part to slip a 19mm deep socket through. The handle is baced against something immovable, thereby keeping the crank from turning. Then you can put a breaker bar on the 19mm socket and turn away. Good luck.

But yeah, you can either do that, or what I did was to thread a tranny bolt into the block up top, and a Pressure plate bolt into the flywheel. Put a wrench between the two to keep the rotating assy from spinning, get out a breaker bar and a 19mm 6pt socket, and you're golden. :thumb:

yeah i put 2 flywheel bolts in half thread and used a bellhousing bolt and wedged it in there and used a 1/2 drive 19mm 6 point socket and also a 2 and half foot cheater pipe and got no results besides slowly wearing the corners off the crank bolt. this is why im bout ready to weld a socket on it.

before i go to remove my 3.2 engine im gonna use the block of wood and bump the starter idea.
honestly this bolt shouldnt be this tight but o well.

ok well i gave it one last attempt and the bolt rounded off so its welding time. gonna have to weld a socket to the crank pulley bolt to get it off. that thing it way to tight. i didnt slip or turn slightly slanged or used an extention and yes it was a 19 mm 6 sided short well socket.
Arg!

I've also used a core drill, (forget the size) and cut the ****** off. It needs to be just large enough to clear the bolt head. Of course it ruins the bolt, but since yours is already ruined that won't matter. Use plenty of lubricant on the teeth.
