I have a 2013 Taurus SHO with pp2 package and approximately 60k miles. I love the car and it has been extremely reliable. About a year ago I started primarily driving my F250. I take a trip every month and put on about 200 miles on the Taurus to keep it running along with running it every other weekend for quick trips around town. This morning I attempted to start the car via push button start. It cranked but did not start. I pressed it again and she fired right up. I backed up around my driveway then exited the car to grab something from inside the house. I got sidetracked and about 15 minutes later the I noticed the car was no longer idling. The auxiliary power was running blower motor but the engine was not running. I attempted the start the car about 4 times or so and it would crank and run through its cycle but it would not start. After the 3rd time or so I started getting a “Check charging system” error on my dash display. I put it on a battery charger for about 4 hours, it seemed fine, and I tried to start it up again. Still wouldn’t start but would turn over when I tried. The fuel in it is only a few weeks old, and the car has never given me any problems. I tried googling around for this issue but to no avail. Any ideas? It’s odd diagnosing a car that literally is push button start. I feel helpless when it doesn’t fire up. Haha. Thanks in advance! Any help is appreciated.

Welp, you need to intake compression ignition exhaust for the engine to run. Push button start has nothing to do with this process. Ford has not been letting the driver directly control the starter for years. Meaning when you cycle the ignition to crank the engine, the ignition switch was an input to the car and it doesnt control the starter directly. The P.C.M. does that now for you.

So your engine cranks but doesnt start. Check for D.T.C.s that may point in a direction. Start looking at the intake system for restrictions, check fuel pressures, see if you have spark, base engine stuffs.

It finally threw an engine light P0036, and P0087 (fuel pressure stuff). I pulled my fuel pump control module after reading about a recall, and mine appeared faulty after reading the the faulty part numbers from factory. I replaced it with a new one and she fired right up! Drove it for about 20 miles and the engine light didn’t go off. I plugged in my reader and cleared the codes. I drove it a bit more and the engine light hasn’t popped back on. Everything *seems* fine, well see.
