CPS question

I replaced the camshaft position sensor but I'm still having a hard start. Sometimes it fires right up and most times I have to crank it three times to start and it sounds rough, like it only starts on 2 or 3 cylinders first. Once started it runs strong with excellent fuel milage.
21/28. I have 132K on this puppy. Ford dealer recommends I replace the CPS at a cost of $425.00
Is there something else I can check before putting out the bucks. THX

Yes,check out www.shotimes.com and use the instructions to do it yourself.The CPS is around $45 and not a very difficult job.Dealers are notorious for extreem overcharging to do the job.

Does your engine ever die while you are driving? If not, your problem is probably not the CPS. Other items that may cause this are a weak fuel pump or one with leaking discharge check valve. The idle air control valve or throttle position sensor may also be malfunctioning to cause this condition. Have you seen the CHECK ENGINE light at any time other than while cranking? Does the CE light go out after less than 1/2 second when cranking? I doubt it is the CPS.
