CPS gap

When replacing the CPS I have read that it needs a .030 gap between the CPS and the vein wheel on the crank. The only gaping tool I have goes to .025.

Will I be ok with a .025 gap instead of .030?

I doubt that the .005" will make a difference if you just gap it at .025"....there is a degree of tolerance in all measurements like this. But you could use your gapping tool, and just set it with a tiny bit of clearance, to get as close as possible to the .030" spec.

I'm just guessing here.....but personally, I would be more concerned about problems from the gap being too big, rather than too small....so I would prefer to err on the "tight" side.

BTW...a sheet of paper is about .005", just to give you a reference for about how much clearance to add to your gap gauge.

The main reason to gap the CPS, is so it dosen't hit the shutter wheel. Turn the crank over and check the gap at eack vein. If it dosen't hit the CPS, your golden.
