Okay, I had my intake off back a few weeks and everything went good but the secondaries didn’t seem to be opening after the re-assembly. Checked all the connections a few different times but the last time I noticed the Electrical connector in the back was off. Well the snap was broke and I have since "taped" it. My question is that the next time I started it and "got on it" the secondaries opened as I thought they would. After being parked and repeating the above, nothing!! shrug Yes I checked the connector. The only thing I’m thinking is that I replaced all the vacuum hoses with a silicone dress up gimmick. Is the vacuum, to strong?? I’m stumped, any thoughts?

Also, for the **** of it I unplugged the MAF as you guys sometimes recommend. What exactly should I notice?? It ran just perfect?? Should it run this nice with it disconnected??

Sorry so long this early

The vacuum applied to the secondary vacuum actuators to keep the runners closed is only as strong as the vacuum in the intake manifold. The color or material of the hoses wouild have absolutely no effect on the vacuum unless they were too soft and collapsed.

The secondary butterflies are held closed by vacuum and allowed to open when the vacuum is released by the electrical solenoid valve. The only way the secondaries would not open is if the power to the solenoid was not connected or the solenoid failed to operate. I have not heard of the latter occurring so make sure the connector is securely attached.

With the MAF disconnected, the EEC (computer) will remain in the open loop mode just like when the engine is still cold after first starting. This causes the fuel mixture to be quite rich, lowering your fuel mileage, performance and raising your emissions output (the engine would fail an emissions test).

The only reason to unplug the MAF connector is to check if the MAF is the cause of engine driveability problems. If the engine runs poorly with the MAF connected, okay with it disconnected and you are getting a CHECK ENGINE code that indicates that the MAF output is out of range, you need to replace the electronics package on the MAF. Otherwise, plug that thing back in.
