Well, I was going to be prudent and wait until the second week of April. This is Canada, after all. But it was 14C (about 60F for you non-metric types) for the third day in a row and I gave in. So the Kuhmos are on, and seem to go fast just fine. I do notice they want to follow the road cracks a bit more, and the steering does not recenter as fast on its own. This latter is doubtless due to the softer compound and the wider contact patch. The crack following is probably a tread characteristic. If the roads stay dry, after a day or two of getting used to them, I will start cranking up the speed slowly to find out where the edge is.

I was in the same boat. After a stretch of nice days, I put my spring/summer/fall wheels on last Saturday. Then we got 8" of snow on Monday!
Oh well, the roads cleared up within 24 hours, and looks like this weekend we're supposed to have 57 degrees with rain. Bye bye snow!!! thumbs_u

I remember when I had my first car, an '85 Bonneville. The first time I drove it in the rain, it was on a section of road that's really slippery when it rains, plus it's at a slight uphill incline.
I couldn't figure out why my car wasn't accelerating very fast after the light turned green, and I just happened to look down and noticed my speedometer said I was going 45 and I was probably going 5. :D I miss the rear-wheel drive the car had. burn_out
Also, on a weird note, when I would put the car in reverse, if it was icy or rainy and the tires would break traction, the speedometer would go backwards.

Wuzzer,

I hate to tell ya, but the Dunlop SP Sport 4000 is an "All Season" tire. You shouldn't be too worried about driving them in a little snow. I had them for two years on my '94 SHO before it was waffle-stomped. Wear those bad-larry's out and get a real summer tire on there would ya?! wink

Darn things just refuse to rust through. In fact, they refuse to even rust. They are just normal galvanized mufflers (the stock ones), aren't they? I have never had a set of mufflers that came with the car do this well. Normally 3 seasons absolute max, but there are heading for their 5th.

In general, I do not trust high performance All Season tires in the snow. They just are not all that good at it, though they often are very good in the rain. Until I actually bought snow tires last year, if there was a good coat of fresh snow down, I tried to either go nowhere or use the truck instead. But I was very impressed with the Blizzaks. At least once this winter I drove out of a snow covered situation that I know I would not have moved 2 cms in with the All Seasons I previously used.

I drove them in the snow on Tuesday. I was very pleased with how they handled.
I don't mind driving the tires in the snow, it's the wheels I'm more concerned about. I don't want to get all the salt and crap that is so lovingly sprayed everywhere after a snowfall here in Minnesota. :)
I really can't wait until these Dunlops wear out. They probably will after this year. wink
Then, I will be looking into some true 'summer only' tires. burn_out
