I have a 92 MTX with about 118k on the clock. Recently, one of the coolant hoses running from the throttle body to the engine block split and started spraying water and steam all over my engine bay.

I didnt let the radiator go empty and I'm quite certain i didnt overheat anything. The engine starts and idles fine but there is an odd problem.

NOW, at least according to my guage, the engine is not heating up. The guage stays pegged below the blue line. I let the car idle for a few minutes after i inspected the thermostat to see if it would heat up adn let the guage rise.

And after the few minutes, I had heat and defrost, the engine was hot to the touch, and the upper radiator hose was warm as well. All these signs tell me that the engine is warming up just fine.

The most interesing part is, after i shut off the car, the temp guage VERY slowly rises up and sits in the normal position. But as soon as the car starts. It returns to below zero.

ANY IDEAS???

Thanks,
P Fraser

i would check the gauge as well and make sure your coolant level is full. if your engine wasnt getting too hot to touch i would say your thermostat is stuck open but it is too hot too touch..

it was too hot to touch, and i pulled out the t-stat to see if it was stuck open but it looked perfect when i pulled it out.

Where exactly is the temp sender for the dash?
