Got a cooling fan assembly from a 92 MTX to replace the original fan assembly in my 95 MTX. Turns out the fan has far more wires on the electrical connector.
Is this a 2 speed fan?
I am considering swapping over my original 95 cooling fan (it is the shroud that is broke) into the 92 shroud.
Will there be any more surprises?
Should I just wire up the 92 fan to run at a single speed (getting that fan wheel off is a real pain)?
Could use some advice.

I would try to get the correct fan for the 95. I believe it is two speed. The 92 fan is just one speed. I'm not sure if the shrouds will swap though, I never could get the older style fan apart.

I don't know if that fan/fan motor is 94/95 MTX specific though...it could be shared with other models, considering it looks like the fan and motor are still available.

the wiring to the 94/95 mtx fans was way different from the earlier ones.

I believe the later model dual fans assembly used a routine where one fan would come on when the temp got to 210 and the other would join in after 220. Or something like that.

BTW, some of the SHO buggy guys I know use the stock single fan and stock radiator in their offroad cars and have never had a problem with overheating. Great unit and saves 600-1000.00 over an aluminum race radiator and fan setup.

Getting the fan wheels off both units (92 & 95) was on the verge of being impossible, but I did it. Had to heat the 92 wheel to the point the metal insert became visible and the surface bubbled.
The 95 fan (with the 3 wires) was huge compared to the 92.
I swapped the 95 fan motor and rotor into the 92 shroud.
The shrouds were not the same, the fan wheels were not the same and of course the motors were not the same.
Worked all day on it and got it swapped-over but it is not ideal, when the fan comes on, there is a huge roar which is the fan wheel touching the shroud (not on the diameter, but perpendicular to the axis of the fan motor).
Not a good fix, but I had to move on to other concerns.
I will be looking for a matched assembly from a 95 in the future, as this one makes me nervous.
