Guys,

I have my '94 MTX in for a new cooling fan. Service guy claims it needs a "3 pin" connector version which he is having trouble locating. Is the 3 pin for a MTX or ATX? The car probably had a bunch of stuff replaced in front end due to previous owner crash and the old fan wasn't original.

Thanks,

Jim

Then you have the correct set up in the car. The automatic cars had 2 fans.
The only thing that would make it strange would be if it were an aftermarket, universal fit unit.
PM Rubydist on this forum... he will know your answer.

I had a 95 mtx junk car, I believe the fan was 3 pin connector, defintely different then my 93 mtx fan.

I might still have the fan somewhere if u want it, I think one of the bolts is busted off that holds it to the shroud, but I can test it and see if it works if needed.

send me a PM

But the fan for the 3.8 looks just like the mtx fan, except it is 2-speed so has the 3-pin connector. they are much easier to find than the mtx fans, because there were a bazillion of them....

If you are really beat and need the whole assembly:
go to Rockauto and they will ship you the fan and shroud for $242.00 plus shipping.
If you just need the motor: Rockauto again:
Spectra $21.79
4-Seasons $113.79
It doesn't seem to be a problem to get one.

I checked the 3.8 cooling fan motor for a 95 Taurus and the part numbers were a few digits different, but very close. I think it would work.
I checked a 94 Tempo with a V6 and the numbers were the same and the price was the same.
Either get you ace mechanic to look up availabiltiy for the Tempo, or get it yourself from Rockauto.

Connector on the car for fan

Guys,

The connector from the harness is three pin female arranged in a circular fashion with a fourth empty hole. The OEM listed fan assembly Motorcraft RF18 (F4DZ8C607B) has an oval male connector with three flat pins arranged horizontally.

I would upload a picture if the system would let me, it's only 11.5kb and the supposed limit is 35kb but it always says "exceeds forum quota by 11.2kb". Any ideas on that also?

Thanks,

Jim

Have you tried Rockauto, they have what you need under your current car description, or a 94 Tempo with the V6.

I did order Motorcraft RF18 (F4DZ8C607B) from RockAuto and that is how I know that the harness and fan have two different shaped connectors. I'll find a picture sharing site to get the photo of the harness posted.

I looked up the listing at the website and I did not see a Motorcraft unit listed as an option.
I would try the Spectra at $22.00.

Figured it out. The oval connector with 3 flat pins is early '94's. There was a running change so that the late '94's and all '95's use the round connector. I got the motor from Autozone and will be splicing it into the shroud.
