Had my coolant flushed by Ford dealer were I purchased the car, I'm very meticulous about maintenance, everything has to be done by the dealer because of my Ford Protect ext Warr. The coolant that was in my car when I bought it was orange, after the system flush it was green, I asked the service tech about this and he said there was no difference..... fast forward 5k miles and I noticed a coolant leak I figured it's at about 100k so I swapped the thermostat, took 15 min no problem... it did not solve issue. Then I find out that the cause is a leak from the water pump gasket $2200.00 to repair!! WTF! Turns out the water pump is run directly from the timing chain... so now I've got to save up $2200 that will take 2 weeks, so the leak was not terrible so just kept adding coolant as needed, however I used motorcraft Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Orange coolant, by the time the 2 weeks had passed the system had run all new (orange) fluid for about a week thing is... no more leak, had system checked coolant is not going into oil pan there is no more leak. I will never let anyone put that green stuff in my SHO again just a heads up.BTW don't ever put stop leak in an ecoboost it will trash your intercooler and possibly your engine never, never put that stuff in your SHO.

Now the correct coolant is Motorcraft Yellow, which replaced Motorcraft Orange. Orange has been discontinued. Yellow is fully compatible with Orange. Yellow can be mixed with or replace Orange. Yellow is not the same as Motorcraft Gold (Xerex G05).

So you are out of warranty now? Keep an eye out for the coolant leak. The water pump can leak externally thru the weep hole or internally into the crankcase. Coolant in the crankcase can destroy an engine.

When you had it originally flushed, it is quite possible that dirt/contaminants had built up and created a seal on your weak gasket. When it was flushed, those deposits were knocked loose and cleaned out. This allowed the weak gasket to leak. The complete system is just over 11 qts. If you leaked that much in 1 week, that should be a big concern. Of further concern is mixing Ford Orange and Ford Green. I hope for your sake, they were using a universal "all color" compatible coolant. From Ford's parts descriptions: Do not mix different colors or types of antifreeze/coolant in your vehicle. It is important to use the correct antifreeze/coolant. Mixing antifreeze/coolants or using an incorrect antifreeze/coolant may harm the engine (or electric motor) or cooling system components and may not be covered by the vehicle Warranty. Green and Orange mixed can create a sludge. I am guessing that your reservoir/expansion tank looks orange now and that is why you are saying it is all new. The possibility of creating a sludge may also be why you are not seeing a leak anymore.

I would keep saving that money and plan on changing the water pump/timing components and a coolant flush.

To everyone's comments here - I agree - the flush maybe "unclogged" the weep hole - however the pump is still failing. I would take your case to the Ford dealership - and get clarity if their antifreeze was even proper - however you know they will lie.

The coolants by color are supposed to be used ONLY as others stated. If there is a newer yellow which replaces the existing orange AF, then great - the formulation does include lubricants.

I will re-iterate replace the water pump ASAP. Its a huge job and that is why it costs that much.

Here ya go - no more confusion.

DY / O = Either yellow-colored engine coolant approved to Ford specification WSS-M97B57-A1 or WSS-M97B57-A2 (Motorcraft® Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant), orange-colored engine coolant approved to Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D or WSS-M97B44-D2 (Motorcraft® Orange Antifreeze/Coolant),or a combination of both engine coolants

How did they "Check the coolant system" to determine it is not leaking into the oil pan? Did they pressurize the system? Leaks don't just stop. Mine leaked externally thankfully, then shortly after, it left me on the side of the interstate at 0430. I changed the pump, tensioners, and all 3 chains 2 weeks ago. $800 in parts. Your water pump is "when" not "if" with a 3.5. I have 110,000 miles.
