Coolant Hose Collapse

Just noticed my upper coolant hose on 1990 SHO ATX is collapsed
What would cause that?

They get old and soft (kinda like old people...)

When the engine is running and hot, it builds pressure in the coolant system. When it is shut off and cools, it can create a little vacuum, especially if there is still a little air in the system somewhere. It is supposed to use this vacuum to draw coolant in from the overflow/recovery tank. If the hose is collapsing, this will prevent the system from drawing coolant back in from the overflow tank.

Time to replace the hose.

Also as stated above,you most likley have some air in the system.
Be sure to let it all bleed out when you replace the hose.

I always thought that a collapsed upper rad hose ment a bad rad cap!

Yeah I was trying to think of that, but couldn't put my finger on it. It is something you should replace anyway if you can't remember the last time you did it.
