Hello Everyone! I was just wondering what are the best after market intake systems that I could buy to fit in my 89 SHO? Thank you so much!

Not sure if you will get a great answer. Alot of us like the oem setup as it draws in air from the fender vs underhood hot air.

I always thought so. I've had home made intake with cone filter and about anything you can bolt on. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are planning to draw/force air beyond the specs of the original intake to handle. Chances are that is not going to happen without forced induction or custom engine work. These cars can get a few ponies here and there but there is not alot of power to be had with regular bolt ons. At this age of the vehicle, your first purchase should be a repair manual (which I think you already got) and find a spare crank position sensor. They are out of production currently and regular supply chains (dealer parts and autopart stores) ran dry a while ago. Check with the others about any floating around and the custom run the guy from the TBird supercoup made recently. That sensor goes and you have a classic car paperweight.

Actually, I had to fix my crank position sensor recently with my mechanic. It was annoying but we’ve got that done. I love my SHO and truth be told, it doesn’t need much more power. It has plenty enough to impress my friends and impress me as well.

Really at this age just enjoy it for what it is. Like I said, I put everything on this thing that was available and in the end the brake upgrade and suspension stuff was the thing that really made a noticeable difference. Now if you plan on tearing into it and making a custom engine or strapping a turbo/supercharger on it, that is a different car at that point.

Nothing to be gained by changing the intake. Drop in a K&N panel filter if you want.

The old SHO Shop "Can" used a conical K&N filter in a round housing, that basically replicated the stock setup.

For large power adders, that could help, but nothing to be gained for you now.

The supercoupe seller made a second run of crank sensors that are available now

Not sure what this one adds from sho shop. But i have a k and n cone filter under the carbon fiber shielding . Also has the largest maf pipe. Compared to the oem maf pipe its alot larger maybe 80mm or larger. Makes a good bit of sound with the intake and head porting.

That's one of the few CAI I actually liked, and those had a very short run along time ago. It's nice and unique but stock box is really good.
Even with a recent crank sensor job, I would consider having an extra on hand just in case. These cars will not run without one working. That makes ability to resell very high if they remain scarce.

That's the SHO Shop Can. The original was carbon fiber, then when it got too expensive to make, Vadim doubled the cost from $100 to $200, and also sold a yellow plastic Can for $100.

The main reason was for the 80mm MAF that needed the bigger intake tube. But, the intake tube can be modified to use the stock airbox with the 80mm MAF.

With the basic Bolt On Stage, the 80mm MAF, which needed the LPM to work correctly, added a bit of undetectable power over 6k (BTDT) and wasn't worth it.
