Convertable SHO?

Just wondering if anyone has seen a convertable SHO or has attempted the idea.

A convertible SHO would be schweet for someone with the money. I once seen a 740iL convertible in Car and Driver, but the price was astronomical. I think the weight of a top and it's mechanicals would far outweigh the benefits of an SHO motor, BUT if ya got the Dime I'm sure ASC and its affiliates have the time.

I believe there is a place in California that will turn any car into a convertible for about $10k

I remember seeing it in a magazine like Automobile or Motor Trend once... they had a convertible NSX and also a Lexus SC400 or something like that...

Our cars aren't very stiff to begin with, hence we want SFBs and STBs...what do you think would happen if you removed the roof? You'd have a limp noodle of a car. Not merely limp but a bloated overcooked noodle. I don't believe it would be a good idea.

That's why you pay someone $10k to do it for you and they put the proper amount of work in required to stiffen the chassis/body structure

And it's why you DON'T take the redneck approach and blowtorch it off

Even spending $10k, I wouldn't think they could stiffen the car enough to compensate for the roof being gone.

Maybe if this was a Sport Coupe or something, but man...that'd be a _LOT_ of work to get it even to stock handling conditions minus the roof.

A limp noodle with a brace is still a limp noodle. To have any chance at decent handling you'd need an actual frame to start your work on...the taurus doesn't have it. The mustang vert is a limp noodle and it's designed from the ground up to be a convertable. Rousch modifies them to be not-so-limp but it takes a 6 inch wide steel bar over the top of the car.

what if you were to put in a full roll cage, it wouldnt be the first convertable w/ a roll cage, between those an SFC you should be able to do it.

It wasn't a SHO but I have seen a regular generation 2 Taurus that was done up with a paint job and made into a convertable. I would love to share the pics but scanner is down because of XP

I don't think anyone was saying that it couldn't be done.

More along the lines of "the car would turn into a big soggy piece of crap" if it was done.

I mean, hey, it's your car. Feel free to screw it up. That's why it's yours, not ours.

If you plan on driving the car around at 10 miles an hour, cruising with the top down, it's all good.

But if you're going to do that, why mess up an SHO? Get a regular Taurus, or Sable. Or, if it's gonna cost $10k, use that as a down payment on a nice factory convertible.

Does anyone have the pictures of this car. I had heard of a convertible that I thought was a SHO, but it might have been a regular Taurus. One of my friends had a magazine with the pictures in it.

If it helps I also saw that Taurus and it was on Speed Vision. The interviewer asked if it was a SHO, and he said that is was a Taurus GL.

I have seen a couple Gen 3 Taurus rolling around convert. The first was by a gas station and it had Utah plates, full of older people. (I'm in Utah also.) And the other had Cali plates on it with kids in it.

There was a roadster for sale near my house, but I didn't get a chance to check it out. It might jave been a conv't but I doubt it.
