I am going to attempt to change the coils on the back side of the engine and would like to know if there is any particular brand of coil to use or should I stick with the motorcraft name? Of course I will change plugs as well and would like recomendations for plugs as well.

I wouldn't say Motorcrafts are particularly good or better than others. Probably only one manufacture anyway.

I'd buy the cheapest.

What I mean is, Is there a better coil out there than OEM? And what about plugs? I have to get a longer extension in order to pull my plugs so I have yet to see what kind of plug is in there.

They're all the same coil anyway. The ones that you get from Napa or Murray's or a number of different places all have the Motorcraft sticker on them. I believe there may be one other apparent manufacturer but I don't know if there really is or if it's just a sticker. Even if there was another manufacturer, I doubt that they could be any worse.

As for plugs, stick with the Motorcraft plug. They do really work best and you don't want to experiment with different plugs because it sucks to have to change them out again.

The cheapest place I have found that carries coils is Murray's. IIRC, it was priced in the high sixties per coil.

So many choices. I called a few places, Autozone has coils by "Wells" that are $71.99 but don't have them in stock or in their warehouse. O'Rielly autoparts has "Borg Warner" Coils for $85.99 and "Motorcraft" for $121.99. Advanced Autoparts has "GP Force" (I think that is what the guy said) for $76.96, and NAPA has "Eckland" (?) for $116.99.

So what would you do? Wait to try to get the cheapest one, or go with a name you have never heard of, or spend a little money on a name like Motorcraft or Borg Warner?

What do you use to insulate the rear harness? I should do this also while I have everything apart.

Whatever you get, just make sure it doesn't have a "Motorgraft" sticker on it! Saw a news report recently about counterfit parts.
