My temp gauge has been acting weird lately... While driving it usually sits around the "A" in "Normal", but every time I come to a stop and let it idle for a minute or two it jumps up between the "O" and "R". When I start driving it quickly goes back wher it started. Is this normal?? I just replaced my radiator, and the coolant is sitting perfectly right at the normal level... Curious to hear if anyone else has the same temp gauge results

you may have some air in the system, but aside from that, you will never find someone with the same temp gauge reading as you. They are different on every single car.

M is around 190F and the the fan should come on around the O to R range and shut off at the O to M.

yeah that seems normal especially in warmer climates when i was draging in 95degree 80%humidity weather in the lanes my car would sometimes hit the R but the fan would kick on but after a run it would be back down at A due to the air rushing over the radiator

my cooling system consists of a new radiator, thermostat, system cleaned and flushed, and new coolant. just today i installed my gauges and the water temp reads about 192 where as the gauge on the cluster sets at "L". its been a cool day here in Texas so my fan hasnt had a chance to come on. but i did notice that while the temp gauge stayed at 192, the cluster gauge climbed to "A", almost "M". in hotter conditions, my fan comes on at the high side of "M", then drops to "A", fan shuts off, needle drops to "L". without the fan running, i can watch the gauge fluctuate, indicating my thermostat is working properly.

Unless the senders are in very close proximity to each other and your OEM sender is new the readings between the two gauges doesn't mean a whole lot.
