i noticed a strange thing. on a cold start, the car starts fine, then idles around 500 rpm for a couple seconds then suddenly goes up to like 1500 rpm then back down again. it might do this twice at most and then stays normal. anybody knows what's up with that? should i take it to a mechanic or is it something normal that can be fixed? any advice would help. thanks

It's an Idle air control valve. It's purpose is to allow the PCM or powertrain control module to maintain and control the engines idle speed. It is located behind the throttle body, looks like a cylindrical device with a two wire connector coming out of it. It's held on by two hexhead screws.
