I noticed last weekend after a spirited drive in the country that the aluminum tube for the K&N was quit hot. I wrapped it with the same stuff I put in my downpipes. Is that going to hold the heat in or keep it out? Should I be concerned at all?

That's the problem with aluminum piping and why other mfrs go with ABS plastic. The wrap should help keep the heat out, the real problem is the heat present in the engine bay, and the wrap helps in that respect. I would also check to make sure that the "airbox" is sealing properly against the hood when the hood is closed (use plumber's chalk for example). Most times it does not, and lets in engine bay heat. You can line the box on the inside with stickon foil insulation from home improvement stores if you like to keep it even cooler.

That is also why we do not promote metal charge pipes. We get that all of the colored tubing looks cool at the pop of the hood, but the additional retained heat **** performance.
