So, what exactly causes the #8 coil to interfere with the MAF? I have had a problem with this for some time now and have changed the #8 coil a couple of times and the problem is still there.

No codes, no noticeable misfires or stumbles, and I have cleaned the MAF some time ago. My car is doing the same thing that the SHO is doing in that "You-Tube" video that is in another recent post, if that helps any.
Yeah, that would be the one. The second link is clearly what mine is doing. I have swapped coils 5 and 8 and no improvement. I have some other coils and have swapped them out with #8 as well and still, no improvement.
When you had this problem, did it affect the shifting of the transmission?
What is wierd is that my problem started last February when we had some freakishly cold weather and it snowed down here. My car was fine that morning, pulled it out of the garage and drove to a relative's house where it sat all day outside in the cold. That night when I was driving home was when it started running bad and has been that way ever since.
Okay, I would guess that taking it to somewhere like Autozone would not work then because they say that the "check engine" light has to be on for their scanner to read codes, so I have to find someone with a better scanner or break down and take the car to a shop to be scanned. If I buy a scanner, what is a good one?
IIRC it is the coil misfiring that affects the MAF and this happens inside the PCM. Not always coil 8 either.
If not coil #8 would it possibly be another coil from the front bank, or can one from the rear also cause the interference to the MAF?
Hopefully I haven't screwed something up. I didn't remove the actual sensor from the meter housing either, this time I will. I bought some "CRC MAF sensor cleaner" today, anyone ever use this stuff? Last time I cleaned the MAF I used carb cleaner followed by brake cleaner, now I have read that those cleaners should not be used and can damage the sensitive wires in the MAF... Great.Hopefully I haven't screwed something up. I didn't remove the actual sensor from the meter housing either, this time I will.
So, my project tomorrow is to remove the MAF and thoroughly clean it with actual MAF cleaner and go from there, hope it works.
Well, that was a waste of time. I cleaned the MAF and there is no change. I am going to pull the intake and remove the aluminized tape that I used to wrap up the wiring harness, could be causing an interference, and swap the coils from front to rear and see what happens. If I cannot fix the problem myself, the car will go to a shop and I will go from there. If it looks like something major, then this may be the end of my SHO experience.
