I am bringing my car back to the used car dealership on Wednesday. They allready changed out the front 4 coil packs with used ones. The car still skips and surges at idle. I checked the spark plugs and they look like they need a change. The dealer said he would replace them for me. Does anybody have any info about the coil packs that I can give him? I would like for him to put new ones in the car for me so I wont have a problem down the road. I was told that I can get them aftermarket for approx. $60.00ea is that true and where can I find them?

I'm not sure what you're referring to as coil packs. I think there is only 1 coil pack with 3 coils inside it. This is where the wires connect from the plugs. Check the plugs and wires for oil. If that's the case then you need to replace the seals. Other things to look at for idle problems are the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor.

if you find out you need one, I have one I could sell you that is in perfect condition. Thought it was the problem on my ignition fire, but it wasn't. E-mail me off list.

My car is a 1997 SHO. The coil packs that I am refering to attach to the plugs. There are 8 of them one for each plug.

Bryan, where'd you take the car, Pride Ford?

If so, it's been my experience that you may want to bring the car to Chambers in Braintree. Pride is sorely lacking in SHO-specific expertise. They have a great shop, and they're getting better, but I had to explain to show them what a 60k valve adjustment was for the V6; they had no idea what I was talking about. That's scary. I can only assume they have the same shortcomings with the V8. If you do go to Pride, probably the best mechanic they have (cool temper, pretty smart) is Mike Farias. And don't listen to a word that Jim Broz says (Service Advisor / Manager) - every time he opens his mouth, get the hip boots out, and open your wallet a little wider.

Good luck.
