I recently checked my codes and got a couple i am not sure about. I got a KOEO 214 and 542. What and where is the CID circuit and why is it saying my fuel pump is "open" or "always on?" I know it does not run all the time.

Ignore the 542 if the car runs.

The 214 indicates a problem at some time with the signal from the CID sensor.

Always state your yoear and transmission (if not obvious).

Give any symptoms that your car might be exhibiting.

Its a 1995 MTX. Car seems to run fine. There is the occassional (very) of the car bucking, tach drops to zero, CEL comes on, car has no power. That's the only thing wrong that i can tell, and that's only happened a few times in 2 months. It has 130k on it.

Your code and symptoms point to a malfunctioning cylinder identification (CID) sensor. You can get the Wells F134 from AutoZone for $29.99. It is secured to the passenger end rear exhaust camshaft with two 5.5mm (7.32") bolts.

Thanks, Scott. You'll have to forgive me, but I'm kind of new to this stuff. I have never done anything major to any engine. Just know the basics. What is the procedure in a nutshell for doing this. Do I need to remove much from the outside of the engine to get to the CID or is it visible from the outside? Thanks.

You can get cleaner access to teh bolts and the sensor by repositioning the power steering fluid reservoir up and out of the way. When you get the new sensor you'll know what you are looking for. In the picture below, the CID is located just left of center with the two mounting bolts and the electrical connector on the top.
