all right I was trying to see if my car was throwing any codes and when i did the test everything did what it was suposed to do but my CE light it didn't come one at all.

has anyone else had this problem?
could it be a light burnt out?
how hard is it to replace the light?

Buy a code reader at sears. It has a light on it that blinks. That's what i use.

Without the selftest circuit being connected, does the CE light up when you turn the key to the run position?

Please describe where you connected the jumper. Did it look like this (borrowed from midwestsho.com)?

yeah I used that diagram, and no the CE light doesn't come on when I start the car

Here's a quicktest of the CEL light:

Ignition to RUN without starting the car

Connect the Self-Test Output pin to the pin labeled Signal Ground.

The CEL should illuminate.

If it does not, you have either a burned out bulb or an open circuit eleswhere.
