Anyone ever pull a 85 code before? It's CANP (Canister Purge) circuit failure. Any ideas where to start with this one? Pulled this code on a 89 with 125K. Car has been having some intermittent bucking like the fuel cuts out for a second comes on cuts out. The 85 came up in KOEO continuous mode and a 14 loss of PIP signal came up under the stored codes. The CKP has been changed since it happened so I'm starting to lean towards the CMP now, even though it's not throwing a code for it now. Thanks!

The 14 code is much more important. If the CPS was changed and properly gapped and the problem has not changed, the problem could be a connection to the DIS module. Double check the rear connector on the DIS for tightness and freedom from corrosion on the conductors. The 14 code would not (should not?) be affected by chaging the CID sensor.

The 85 code is from a non-functional cannister purge (CANP) solenoid valve. This valve is located below the coil pack and looks like a C- or D-cell battery. it is connected to the vacuum hose that is connected to the top of the throttle body and routes down past the coil pack. Just follow this hose and you will find the solenoid valve. I installed the Borg-Warner CP-205 ($20.99 from AutoZone) on my '91 and alleviated the 85 code source.

Ok, the CKP sensor was changed the other day and properly gapped to the vane. We also changed the front main seal and timing belt. Me and my friend drove his car again today and the problem occured again today. Just noticed today when going for inspection that the fan wasn't coming on, we found out there was a bad connection at the ICRM. Do you think it may be possible that was causing the bucking? Maybe due to the fuel pump cutting out from the ICRM? We haven't gotten a chance to drive it since we just fixed it yet though. Also I think there is something electrically wrong with the car as it wouldn't start today. Had to jump the starter solenoid to get it started. And when doing that the positive cable at the battery smoked. May be due to a slightly cracked positive battery cable clamp (BTW the clamp is brand new and cracked on installation, cheap POS). Think it could be any of this?

The fuel pump cutting in and out would cause the engine to buck, but it would set a fuel pump secondary circuit code and would not set the 14 code. Why don't you attend to that poor connection at the battery before doing anything else?

The 14 code has been gone since we swapped out the CKP sensor. But the problem has persisted today on a drive along with the 85 code. After finding a problem with the IRCM connection I plan on giving it a good drive tomorrow to see if it's still there. Then again I had it the other day on a drive of about 30 miles or so and it's didn't show any problems at all. So I guess it's time for a drive and some quality battery clamps. Thanks!
