ok I know my code is a 542 and that means a fuel pump secondary circut failure but what parts would cause that code to trip is it teh pump it self or low fuel pressure or what.

The 542 is commonly thrown when the engine is stalled. It most often is bogus.

Unless you have any real problems, just ignore it.

since I have the pip and random stalling then this most likely leads to my CPS being the culprit. Thanks I just wanted to make sure there were no other possibilities that I may have overlooked before I tear apart the front end of my car.

I had the same code along with 212, 214 IIRC. Replaced CKP and CID haven't seen it since. If the PCU isn't getting a signal from one or both then I would imagine that the fuel pump isn't getting a signal.

An engine shutdown with the ignition key in the ON position will generate the 542 code whether it be from the loss of crankshaft position signal or inadvertant stall at the release of the clutch.

fred79, it seems you have correctly diagnosed the cause of your engine stalling and are intending to replace the causal component. Be careful to not strip the CPS's screw heads. This can be prevented by using a Phillips tip inserted into a 1/4" socket and using a 1/4" drive socket wrench to apply the torque and pressure to the stainless steel screws. The gap between the CPS and the shutter tabs on the crank pulley should be .03" on each of the three tabs. Good luck.
