Have randomly gotten code 332 lately, then today cel light stayed on and now there is also a code 558. Can't find much on here on that fault. I know the 332 means I need to clean out the egr system in the manifold. All I can find on here is the term evr for 558 but the search doesn't like it.

Thanks!

558 (O) EGR vacuum regulator solenoid/circuit failure - EVR or PFE or Solenoids

Try cleaning it out first. I was able to do that a couple of time before I had an idle surge and check engine light that would not go away. Ended up replacing the DPFE sensor to finally resolve the problem.

I did replace the dpfe about 5 years ago, and cleaned the intake then too. Wasn't sure how long a cleaning would last. Did not get a 558 back then however.

my list says that neither of those codes should turn on the check engine light. hmm. pretty sure my experience is that the 332 does turn on the cel.

my experience with the 332 is the light goes on and off, as your drive when ever it tries to use the egr. How it was last time I had issues with the 332. This morning going to work it cycled a few times on and off, then came on solid and didn't go out, Probably when it set the 558. Driving home, no cel at all, seemed totally happy. Funny thing to me, my federal car with no egr, is by far the cleanest and passes emissions testing with ease, both the SHO's with egr will fail if I don't pull the spout.

replaced the egr solenoid, and looked at the egr passage ways in the manifold. They are very clean and didn't have any crud build up. But still getting a code 558. I'm guessing it is electrical, since it comes back right after clearing the codes during the koeo test. Any suggestions? It went on and off all the way home on my drive tonight.

Maybe the DPFE sensor has gone bad since the time you replaced it, check the condition of the rubber hoses that connect to the DPFE sensor

or maybe there is a wiring issue to the dpfe sensor.

So I checked everything as best I could, dropped car off at shop I use. He can monitor things in real time, and do alot more than I can with the basic scanner. He recommended changing the egr valve, thinking due to carbon build up, age it might not be responding properly, after driving and watching the voltages. Replaced the egr, he drove quite a bit and said all looked ok, and figured it's fixed. This am driving to work still getting the random check engine light and codes for egr. I am so annoyed by this.

I have never seen one of these where the egr valve was the issue. The issue is that the little passages in the intake or the steel tubing get plugged and the computer thinks that it is the egr not opening, but it is just not sensing the flow because the lines/passages are plugged. Search the forum for threads detailing cleaning procedure.

The manifold passages were very clean, I sprayed carb cleaner in and it poured out the other end where the egr attaches. didn't seem to have any restriction or build up. It even looked clean. Could the little hoses to the DPFE be clogged? Hadn't thought of that.

its not the big egr passage that gets clogged, its the little signal line passages. usually in the intake, but sometimes in the steel tubes that those little hoses connect to.

So looks like the computer is the problem, the driver inside the logic module that controls egr valve function is not working. But managed to get a computer from a member here.
