I have an 89 SHO, and have been having a problem with it dying intermittently. No warning, no nothing. After it dies, it will restart after about 30 minutes. Occassionally, it wil cut out while driving and start back up while still going.

I pulled the codes today, and got a 14 stored. I cleared the codes about 2 weeks ago, so I know that this one is fairly recent and related to the issue.

What say ye, oh great SHO experts? Is it the cam position sensor, or the crank sensor?

All input is greatly appreciated! And I searched before posting this.

"CPS " and "CKP" are both the crank position sensor

The cam sensor is denoted by either "CID" or "CMP".

The difference in terminology started in the documentation for 1993. The auto industry adopted standardized mnemonics for most of the vehicle electronic components to aid technicians in cross-platform skills.

Intermittent cam sensors usually manifest as either difficulty starting (requires multiple attempts) or by the engine stumbling while driving.

Got the Crank position sensor last night!! The car runs better than it ever has! The water pump was leaking from the housing just a little. Looks like the timing belt was replaced recently, too. Thanks to all for your knowledge.

Listen to SHOred, the leaky water pump is what caused the crank sensor to fail in the first place.

His water pump was leaking so he should have replaecd it. I myself won't replace a water pump if it's not leaking.
