I removed the tranny without incident and cleaned the outside of it pretty well. The case halves are sealed with black RTV, a lot of black RTV. cuss

I installed the TOB actuation shaft bushings and TOB. Here is my major concern. Using the release arm to cycle the TOB, it is smooth a couple of times, but then it binds. It seems the upper fork portion with the plastic pin pulls the TOB back to the case a little unevenly(i.e. the upper plastic pin half is pulled a little more than the lower half, thus causing it to bind). Yes, I did put the new sleave on with sleave retainer. I didn't put anything on the outer surface where the TOB rides.

I will finish the cluch installation and open the tranny today. I'm really worried about that TOB though. It would be quite unpleasant to have to tear this car apart again anytime soon.

Please advise. Thanks.

I find that if I hold the TOB in one hand while cycling the release arm with the other, it functions just fine. Will contact with the pressure plate have the same effect?

Yes, relax, the pressure plate fingers do the job of pushing the TOB back with an even distribution of force. The black RTV on the transaxle case seams is a bit more of a previous maintenence problem. The designated sealant for the metal to metal mating is a ****** dressing. You can get the specific Permatex Hylomar HPF Gasket Dressing and ****** Sealant at an AutoZone if you need to disassemble the case.

aamco(sp?) is responsible for the RTV. In fact they used it on many of the bolts and pins in and around the tranny in lieu of teflon tape. I have the proper sealant you listed.

Now the next problem, the 5th gear bearing fell apart. Please see new post. I need help and advice soon.

Thanks,
Tom
