worn parts big time.
the good news is you can unbolt the U joint from the input shaft and replace it.
that really does not exonerate the clutch though, it means you have to move the shifter a LOT more to select the gears. there is a gate/guide inside the transmission that prevents the actual gears 'n stuff from engaging "in-between" the actual gear.

Ok. So I need to replace the "U joint". What would that help? Why would it make shifting harder; because its a new part....? Would that help my shifter from rotating? Any clue about my shifting? Do you think I would be better off replacing the clutch. Im trying to figure out if I really need a clutch. I posted a thread earlier but I made videos so that maybe it would help to understand the gear issues. Thanks for the comment.

hmmmm i looks similar to the shifter joint on the ford probe and the play looks like the same issue ford probes have with the rubber bushing falling apart, if it has rubber bushings then they are all worn out and need to replace them.

the shifter spinning around that im assuming the part where it screws in is all stripped that is why is rotating freely

If I replace the rubber bushing, what would it help with? Is there anyway to fix the shifter spinning around? Could I buy a new one or no? Theres a rubber piece that is on the bottom of the shifter but I dont want to pull it up since it seems glued on.

The video method was an excellent means of getting the problem displayed. Maybe get an assistant and record how the car ***** and where the clutch pedal position is when it "bites", and especially show how it behaves when you put it in reverse and move.

There seems to be quite a bit wrong with your shifter system, (the u-joint and the handle system that is bolted to the car body) and sometimes it is just better to start with another complete system.

On this forum you can post a "wanted to buy" request, or check the existing "SHO Parts Classified" or "SHO Parts Cars" for "Rod Shifter" complete systems.

The "Wanted to Buy" section attracts the attention of long time suppliers like Rubydist and SV&HOdan and many others who have a lifetime of experience on these matters for both pricing and advice. The same rod shifter is used from late 91 through to 95, so they are out there.

All 3 of my manual transmission cars have needed a new clutch soon after I purchased them, so you may be in the same boat. It seems to be almost an unwritten condition of sale. But like I said, you can nurse them along for awhile if necessary to wait for a good deal. And I have never had to replace one since, so once they are done, they are good for as long as you own the car.

I would work on that shifter issue first, as there is enough wrong there to give you all kinds of false readings and problems. Getting the parts from SHOSource is not a bad idea, but it doesn't solve the rotating handle issue and whatever else is wrong with that shifter stalk. I would get another shifter system that does everything properly, and if you need improvements for lightning quick shifts, then you can get the new parts. (That is just me).

The clutch issue usually show up by chattering when you put it in reverse and move the first few feet, especially going up a small hill.

Do the video, show your foot location at the bite point, and more knowledgeable people than me will comment.

Ok. Ill get someone to video the clutch pedal while I push down on it. Ill also get them to get under the car and show the whole problem. The whole rod wiggles but not sure if it should do that. Ill try and get all of it in one video. Thanks for the reply!
Ill look into rod shifters, u joints, etc.

A video with the clutch engagement and the start-off in first, the start-off in reverse, and maybe the shift from 1st to 2nd will be enough, even if it is all done in the length of your driveway. Doesn't have to be fancy.

That shifter has a lot of problems; and maybe all of your problems.

Ok. Thanks! Should I post another thread or just post my video link on this same thread?

Your clevis is shot big time and will need rebuilding.

On the engagement issues, it sounds like you have a clutch issue, likely the throw out bearing ruining the pressure plate fingers. A replacement clutch kit with a Rev. B throw out bearing and sleeve should sort you right out.

Ok. So are all the parts I need on SHONUT? If so, you are saying I need a clutch, and what else? Lol

May as well put it here, but in the end, it doesn't matter. Whatever is easier for you.

We have the parts at SHO Source.

If you send us n email we can look into the spinning shifter issue. We are aware of it and might have the parts to fix it.
