my 92 mtx is very hard to get in gear, it feels very tight at the bottom and does not fully disengage when the pedal is depressed, it does not slip when u are in 3rd 4th or 5th gear under full power. is is simple as a adjustment or is something else going on ? it will not go into first gear at all i have to shut it off to get into second gear then restart it and it feel liek th clutch is trying to pull the car .

Might be a broken strap.

You can adjust the cable by pulling up and then slowly pressing down to see if it adjusts.

Does it matter what order you do it in? I've always pushed it all thE way down and then pulled up on it.

Changing the fluid is always a good idea as well. Doesn't really sound like yours is a fluid issue, but it may still be the original fluid in the trans.

Did this problem arise suddenly or did it get progressively worse? If it's been a progressive issue, I would suspect the cable. Anything traumatic would more likely be the clutch assembly.

I had a similar situation where my clutch would intermittently not work, especially in the lower gears. It was a broken spring from the clutch disk that became lodged between the disk and the pressure plate.

The cable is self adjusting unless something is wrong with the mechanism or the cable is so stretched that there isn't any more adjustment travel left. It's located at the top of the clutch peddle.

Usually (I've had it happen twice) a broken strap is indicated by an increase in vibration and poor disengagement.

I'd go with one of the springs that is out. I've had that at least 2 times before.

I think I remember reading the directions for the manual, though I have never gotten mine to adjust.

If this came on gradually it is almost certainly the throwout bearing wearing its way through the pressure plate fingers. Requires clutch replacement before you destroy your synchronizer blocking rings (shift into gear with the engine off to limp it along).

Luckily there is a way to reduce its likelyhood of reocurrence if you get the right aftermarket clutch components.

but i had a buddy that owns a few sho`s come over and he confirmed that it is the clutch, i am ordering a south bend ofe clutch the ceramic throw out bearing, and any other bushings and sleeves that i can replace in the system along with a new cable
