I spend 3 hours reading up on past posts, There are either newer cluthcs on the market or no mention of the other options listed here.

Autozone's Duralast got some good reviews here and is the cheapest of the bunch, but how about the priceier ones?

What is everyones opinion about buying the parts seperately because of the savings and / buying the Ceramic TOB from SHO nut rather that a clutch kit?

The last clutch kit (Fenco | Dynapac) is the same one that AutoZone carries under two different part numbers. The NU0122 includes the older style "Rev A" throwout bearing (BCA part number 614060); kit NU0122RK the new style "Rev B" throwout bearing (BCA part number 614118) that includes the quill sleeve.

While I cannot speak for the Advance Auto kits, there are a number of threads/posts here about various problems people are been having with the aftermarket clutches in general, including the kits sold by Advance Auto, AutoZone, and even some of the quote/unquote "high-performance" clutch manufacturers.

The only clutch sets I have not seen complaints on recently, are the Ford OEM clutch set, and a clutch set available through one of the forum members on the St. Louis Area SHO Club. The OEM clutch set is available through Ford Parts Online.com (Texas-based Ford parts department) for $280 plus shipping and $20 core; the latter for less than all of the options I've talked about (brief reference here).

I would highly encourage you to do several searches on clutches (best search is by clutch name or parts store name), as this is something you don't want to do twice because you bought a cheap clutch kit.

The following is in reference to your [edited] message above, as my prior post was to the original message.

While the AutoZone clutch sets do get some good reviews, a number of people have reported problems with slipping in the first few thousand miles. The main problem seems to be whether the disc include in the clutch set is an OE-sourced disc or remanufactured disc (the latter reman discs are the ones reported to slip).

Regardless of whether you elect to get the ceramic throwout bearing, your least expensive option will be the forum-member sourced clutch setup.

If you elect to go with the AutoZone clutch set and SHONut ceramic throwout bearing, price both the NU0122 kit, and the NU0122RK kit (RK = revised kit). I was able to purchase the NU0122 kit for $232.99 and tax, versus the online price of $273.99 and tax. If the price of the NU0122RK kit is less (lists for $271.99), get it as you will be able to resell the Rev. B throwout bearing and quill.

Here's a link to the "Rev. B" clutch kit - AutoZone NU0122RK clutch set

Thanks for all the detailed info!

Not sure what you mean by "forum-member sourced clutch setup"
The ST Louis SHO doesnt list any clutch kit on their website.

Definitely looks like I'm leaning toward Fords stock clutch kit, unfortunately it doesn't look like it comes with a TOB. Adding a TOB from Autozone will cost me a total of 340, OR add a ceramic TOB from SHOnut and were talking 400+

I may just go with the first package and save the 60.

Please share your thoughts ....

What about a Zoom Kit from summit? I had great luck with that one beating on it for 15,000 miles. Cost about 250USD

If you are doing a lot of stop and go driving, or like to frequently wind through the gears, or enjoy breaking traction in first/second gear and you want the clutch to last awhile, I would go ceramic TOB.

If you mostly do long highway jaunts then you might get away without one. I know my stock, Rev B throwout bearing car wore through the clutch fingers at a mear 31 K miles. My ceramic TOB equipped car now has over 60 K on the clutch with no signs of finger wear (e.g. difficult shifting), with over 100 autocross runs on it.

There's new ones on rockauto for 150$ (discontinued and only 30 days warranty). The other one is like 220$

It's a deal for someone who wants a stock clutch.

I have the TOB from Josh and it works great. Recently changed my clutch in June and didn't have to change the TOB. THis is my setup with no chattter what so ever, first time in years. It is the Center force dual friction clutch with a 8 lb fly wheel with new insert during clutch change, also SHONUT TOB. THis setup is y far better than the two race clutches I had before. Went on the track at the convention with no problem.
