It is nearing the time to replace my clutch. At this very point in time I am not certain of what is and isn't considered "quality" and so here I am yet again.

As far as use, this SHO will be a DD for at least the next year. After that it will become a weekend car. I am a spirited driver and I like to punch the secondaries on a regular basis.

I am looking for a stiffer feel with a somewhat abrupt but still linear engagement.

Once the time for installation comes around I will have the following mods:

- 3.2l
- Tri-Flow cams
- UDP
- BBB
- Ported Intake
- Catted y-pipe
- Borla catback
- COP
- 17lb Billet Flywheel

Down the road I intend to completely rework the heads (PnP and valve job), fit the SHO for moderate boost (fuel pump, SHOnut FPR, injectors, etc) and install a Vortech v2 s-trim so I'm aiming at close to if not slightly above 300 lb/ft of torque once it's said and done so I want to have installed something worthwhile that can give my peace of mind.

I'm back and forth on the choose given the mixed reviews I've seen on many of the options. Currently I am looking at the SouthBend Stage 3 with the "Cryogenic" treatment . This is not a concrete decision but it gives me a good place to start with. What's the thought on this cryogenic treatment? I think it may have some credit due.

Anyways, I am open to suggestions so shoot them this way.

it all depends how often are you planning on doing clutch job, and who will be doing it.

Ummm once?....

And i will be doing the clutch replacement.

I love my South Bend

That's 1 vote for Southbend

I love my southbend stage 2. Next time ill be going with a stage 3

Another for DxD. Zach, why did you go with the stage 2 when it's the same cost as the stage 3?

South Bend Stage 3. Cryo treated. Get a ceramic TOB with it.

South Bend Stage 3

So basically you are saying I am on the right track! haha.
I was planning on the ceramic TOB, didn't mention that before.
Have you driven on this particular clutch?

Stage 4 is where it's at

Haha, a 6 puck clutch would be ludicrous on a DD SHO.

So this seems to be a consciences that Southbend makes quality stuff.

That makes me happy to know I don't have to look far.

I'm currently running a Southbend stage 3 and am happy with it. Slightly firmer pedal and engagment is a little more abrupt than stock, but it is definitly NOT an on/off switch. When you do the clutch swap make sure you clean everything up well and lightly oil the input shaft (I used a little anti-seize).

I bought the stage 2 3 years ago when I was just getting into modding my car. I didnt know better. I thought stage 3 would be too much clutch. I was stock when I bought it 3 years ago.

I just about went with the stage 2, but ShoSource recommended the stage 3 when I said I may be spraying it in the future.....still debating weather or not to put a 75 shot on it, but that's a whole different discussion.

Really, the SB stage 3 has a smoother/better engagment than the CM stage 1 I had for the few years prior. Just a slightly heavier pedal.

I also have a Southbend Stage 2 and have been happy with it for almost 3 years (over 50k miles, I think). Don't discount SHO Nut's offerings, though. I'm thinkin' I might go with his upgraded PP and a stock disc next time.

Stock with a ceramic TOB...It holds my boosted car just fine and is nice and smooth.
Big clutches are pointless on these cars IMO.

I went with TZ series SB.....why? Because unless you're going to boost or spray, it'll hold whatever n/a......

honestly how much better is the southbend stage 2 vs the stage 1? will the kevlar last longer than the organic? Will the stage 2 be ok for a aggressive DD?

Considering cost I figure the extra $100 or so for a "stage x" clutch is worth the extra assurance.

I am going to boost and might even spray down the line as well.

550 for a trans, 800 labor (includes welding diff, new y pipe bolts so i can replace y pipe, replacing alternator also) clutch 600 clutchmaster stage 2 and shosource 329 flywheel. I know labor is a little high, but i trust this guy. If it was anything else but a tranny i would do it myself.

I am running a Stage 1 clutch with the turbo but after any aggressive take off the clutch slips and burns. So far it is holding up but I plan to upgrade to a Stage 3 to hold the power.
