I am gonna purchase this '92 SHO to fix or use for parts. The guy who owns it bought it from this family friend who is in college and needed money. He has told me she stated the clutch was on its way out because in high gear it would slip. I drove it and it seems the clutch grabs right off the floor compared to my '93 which doesn't grad until its almost all the way out. He said that when its in high gear it slips, I aasked him if the revs jumped and all he said was it wont accelerate further. He had no dealer plates to throw on the car so I was limited to < than 30 mph -around the block- driving. He also said that when he drove it he had to push the clutch all the way to the floor or it would grind going into gear! Tranny was tight and shifted fine when I drove it.

So anyways, does this sound like a clutch on borrowed time?

For the love of pete, if the car just needs a clutch then bite the $219 and get the kit from SHO NUT, and don't turn a rare 92 into a parts car just over a bad clutch!!!

Yeah, the clutch kit might cost $219 but then triple that for labor costs. Screw that, anyone need any parts? The black leather seats in this car are in "very" good condition. It has the dual air bags, moonroof, and all the other popular options. The exterior is silver with black body letters. Slicers have new tires, and it has brand new brakes all the way around. It even has the updated EATC with the hard buttons. Will be going under the knife next week dependent on how I feel, I pick it up on Monday. Email me at [email protected] with offers.

Gosh imagine that, a 10 yr old used car that needs a clutch. It amazes me that folks actually get suprised when a clutch on a 220 hp FWD car goes south. Do folks really expect them to run forever, and not cost any $$?

So you are willing to strip a car down, instead of putting a clutch in it? Putting a clutch in would take 1/5th as long as striping the car down.

To be honest with you, I don't give a damn what happens to the car as long as I can get my $1500 back out of it. It doesn't suprise me the clutch is going in this 12 yr old car but I am not equipped to change the clutch myself and I am sure as **** NOT paying a shop $600 labor to do it. I don't have a lift to pull the engine, and my luck I'd *** something up dropping the sub frame. You are more than welcome to drive down to Erie, PA and fix it for me -I'll buy the kit and pay your labor-

Erie Pa??? Hmmmm, that's only about a 4 hour drive for me an easy ride across I 90. Did you buy the car yet? Any rust? How many miles? ****, clutches can't be that hard to put in. As for stripping a car for parts, I have done 2 SHOs, and it takes a lot of work to get parts off with out destroying them. $1500, in my opinion, is a bit steep for a 92 in need of a clutch.

Eh...they can be a PITA with the sho...time consuming...lotsa swearing...but if that is all the car needs, I would do the clutch and sell it if I didn't want it. Granted, selling off the parts can equal a bit more money, but then you get left with stuff, like a chasis, sitting in your yard...I know Mikeys_Taurus was looking for a project car...might want to ask him if he wants the whole thing...

Somebody save this car. If I was going to visit home anytime soon I'd offer to help put one in. I think $1500 is too much for a car that old that needs that kind of work. I also think you may have a hard time getting that $1500 back without having a junker sit in the yard for some time and lots of work. Mark don't you sell a clutch how to video? or is it a sho nut only special or something? Save this car!

Well, if anyone wants the car then you can buy it. I can't believe how the enthusiasts on this board take any resale value and flush it down the drain. The people on here take a car which would sell locally in my area for $4000 and pick at it until it goes down to $2000. At least I would think enthusiasts would pay more for a mint, or rare car. The owner wants $2,200 OBO. The car was just on ebay and its a real POS. It needs the following:

--Outer tie rod ends
--60K service (looks like it was never done)
--Rear window re-sealed (leaks)
--Driver's door weatherstripping (leaks)
--Both front door panels (have big holes cut in them--tweeter WERE there)
--Moonroof shade (cloth all torn off)
--Seats need cleaned (filthy but in VG condition otherwise)
--Has been repainted and its not exactly show quality but it is a decent paint job
--Front bumper has several scrapes, and such
--Needs parking brake cables (cut off now)
--Might need new rear calipers (owned removed plastic boots covering the pistons)
--Passenger front strut not installed correctly (?) he says it turns (???)
--Needs clutch (slips in high gear, if you don't push to the floor gears grind)
--No stereo at all and the door ajar light stays on.

Well thats the straight ****, heres the goood:

--Updated climate control (hard buttons)
--Black filled body letters
--Good black leather
--Working sunroof (doesn't leak)
--Rear blackouts
--Newer paint
--New tires (4)
--Slicers in VG condition
--New brakes and rotors (all the way around)
--'92 Silver SHO (1 of 882)
--Good tranny

I am out, I just emailed the guy back and told him to forget it. If someone is interested email me and I will give you contact information. Here was the ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1820025398

I don't know how serious he is, I wanted to do the title work Saturday but it turned out the title is still in the last owner's name and he had to get ahold of her. I told him I wanted to do the title work Monday and for him to let me know when to meet her there but still no answer. He told me he would be in contact with her (as she stopped in the day prior) and it would be Monday morning....I had requested in my email for him to contact me to confirm when I was suppose to meet them and asked several more questions about the clutch and I know he has received the email (read receipt), still no answer.

I have my White '93 5-speed up for sale also. It was a one owner car out of Clarion, PA. It has a good PA inspection until 12-02 and many new parts along with an extended warranty. I hit a deer, did very little damage but I want it out of here....I am tired of looking at it. Email me for more information---it has had alot done to it. I am either willing to fix it and sell it for what it is worth or sell it as-is.

shonut or shoshop I seem to recall have a clutch how to video.
I paid $500.00 in San Jose, including stock clutch with the new steel sleeve, for the job at a clutch specialty shop, mileage was 90,000. I figure to get well over another 100k as I am easy on clutches. Id rather replace a clutch every 100 plus K than mess with the automatics problems. I like sticks better anyway. Sounds like a nice, attactive car, silver with black leather, lots of options. Yes, sad to see it bite the dust for lack of a clutch.
