Almost ready to put this car back together. I have a resurfaced flywheel and a new set of (3) dowel pins from shonut (among other clutch stuff) I want to put this together the right way. It seems like i could just hammer (lightly) the pins in place until they are seated firmly? Is this correct procedure?

Im also confused about the felt washer for the clutch release fork. It seems my trans didnt have one when I pulled it upart. Where exacly is this part located? It seems important to the alignment of the tob from a search. shonut does not have a listing for this either. Dealer part?

The quill race on the TOB seems a little off exact center in relation to the actual bearing surface (that contacts the PP fingers). The old tob seemed to be the same way so its problably nothing to worry about but I want to make sure.

NO locktite on flywheel to engine bolts
BLUE locktite on the PP to flywheel bolts
RED locktite on the TOB fork bolt
what is used under the quill?

thanks

I've had no problems hammering them in there. Just be careful not to hit the flywheel when doing it.

The felt washer slips on the release arm and goes all the way to the top. Then slide the release arm into the tranny housing and through the release arm fork. The felt washer sits between the top of the tranny case and the release arm. For the purpose of a smooth rotation of the release arm.

DEFINITELY use blue locktite on the flywheel to engine bolts. And make sure to torque them down, as well as the PP bolts, to the proper two stage torque specs.
Use hi-strength sleeve retainer (made by Permatex) for the quill tube sleeve. It's a green liquid.

Glad I'm not alone. When I had the trans out for my clutch replacement, I was wondering the same thing about that felt washer. The writeup from SHONUT indicates replacing it with a new one and I had assumed the wear parts kits from them had included that washer. No such luck, ended up re-using the old one.

Does anyone know if Ford still stocks the part, or if it is discontinued? I have the part number at home. I just recently got one for my clutch job, but I acquired it at a local Ford parts place, so I dunno if they can be located anywhere else. If nothing else i can check to see if they still have 'em.

N803859-S is the part number, and the description is WASHER 7.7 X 28.5 X 4.6-FLAT. It appears that it is a discontinued part (go figure).

Just re-use the old one, or cut your own out of similar weight felt.
I guess that would work. Ill see if the parts car has one for reference. Do you know of a good place to get this felt?

thanks
