OK,I just spent $700 to get a new clutch installed!Withing a 1000 miles I started feeling a slip! Then when I shift to 2nd,4th,or reverse the shifter it slef goes back so far it ripped the boot cover up!When its in those gears it is really far back!

So I just went down and talked to them about my car..They said they put a brand new clutch in it but they wouldnt recommend driving the car..They said the self adjusting part of the clutch is not working...They will adjust it and It will go back to having no slack or anything! They told me they really dont want to touch that part of the car!I just spent 700 so they better fix it for me!He told me to look into getting a clutch adjustment elimanator like that Mustangs have!I have no idea about any of this really! Can someone please help me?

The clutch cable and the shifter linkage are two different things. Rod or cable linkage? Either way, they must not have connected it properly. The clutch adjuster is on the clutch pedal under the dash. It is quite simple and they must have screwed that up too. They obviously did not know how to handle the SHO's clutch and shifter linkages. It should have been quite simple. The pedal is blocked up with a 7" long support.

Bottom line - you paid for the repair, which obviously isn't working as expected. Bring the car back to them for them to repair it as necessary on their dime.

If they can't repair it acceptably, then they should give you the money back.

if its the rod shifter, sounds like the stabilizer is either disconnected or they broke the mount on the trans. if its a cable shifter (which i doubt), its more than likely an incorrect reassembly. have you looked under the car at the shifter assembly ? theres a recent post about this same type of problem. he said to get into 2nd, 4th, and Reverse, the shifter had to come WAY back and barely engaged. and when shifting to 1st, 3rd, and 5th, the lever didnt seem to move completely forward.

no such thing as adjusters. Sounds to me like they forgot to install a tranny mount bolt or something to that effect. The motor is probably torquing so severe that it's changing the throw length of the rod shifter.

Is this the same shop that worked on your 94' like 19 different times and never got it fixed? I really hope you would have learned your lesson. :)

What they are telling you to get is an adjustable clutch quadrant, which allows you to adjust where in the clutch pedal travel the clutch engages/ disengages. The only problem here is that there is no such item for a SHO. :)

It sounds to me like the subframe might be hanging or like the others said, a trans mount bolt was left out. Either way, it's something they did 100% and they need to cover it.

I would also try to reset the clutch cable...

try pulling the clutch pedal all the way up (away from the florr board) as far as possible and once you get the shifter problem the clutch pedal should readjust to your driving... it is a big no-no to not support the pedal when the cable is disconnected...

as far as the shifter somethign HAS to be loose.. I would try to find someone in your area that knows SHO's ( a member would be best) and have them see if they can tel if anything is gone a rye

Mike, I hope to change that I currently have a soild quadrant vendor working on a replacement for the SHO's plastic adjustable quadrant. This will be a solid unit (like mustang aftermarket) when completed the clutch will be manually adjusted at the cable mounting point on the transaxle. wink

94ShoATX Its really hard to trouble shoot something like this without seeing the car in person. First of all verify the rod shifter was hooked up correctly including the stablizer bar. Sorry not much help good luck.

Ryan, do you have a cable shifter or rod shifter? If it's a rod shifter check where the body of the shifter attaches to the car. Should be 2 nuts there to tighten. On my car there's only 1 because one of the studs is broken off...but there should be 2. That could cause the shifter to sit lower in the boot.

As for the slipping problems, there's a problem with the install there. What is the name of the shop and what street are they located on?

Another question comes to mind also. Did you have the throw out bearing replaced? What clutch did they put in there? (ie: Valeo?)

That's cool Kerry! Way to go! thumb One of these days I'll see if I can get Terrycable down in Southern California to make a Teflon lined clutch cable for the SHO. Ditto for the throttle cable. Unless you beat me to it hehe! (hint hint. I'm a lazy bastard eek! ) Gotta find me a throttle cable in good working shape to send them I suppose. The one that's on my car is in fine shape but I need the car as a daily driver.
