So here's where i stand. I have put in a new clutch and flywheel. Everything is back together and torqued down. The front end of the car is on stands and the front tires are not on yet. It does not seem that everything is working as it should.

I have a light on for the Anti Lock(or whatever it is) This is where i think(and hope) the problem is. The front wheels don't really spin freely when the car is running. It takes a probably around 30 pounds of force to spin the wheels with the car off and in neutral. When the car is running they do not spin at all by hand when in neutral.

When the car is off i can go through all the gears just fine

When i start the car in neutral it sounds like i have a loose belt on start up(that's probably what it is). Then sometimes i could get it into gear with the clutch, but the tires don't spin till I'm in higher RPMs. Sometimes, i cant even get into gear.

On the first few starts when it got put into gear you could hear some rubbing sound from the clutch area. This has seemed to go away after a few starts and attempts to run the car.

A couple mistakes made along the way:
When i first started the project i did not have the clutch pedal blocked, but soon after i started i did end up blocking it.

Also i used pipe clamps for the driver side boot and i think there might be some interference with the ABS sensor.

My possible solution: Cut the one remaining ABS sensor line (passenger side was cut when i bought it) and hope that that was keeping the brakes engaged.

Any other ideas? Please HELP!!!!

I would put a $20 on it that its in right. It didnt say engine side on the plate itself, but only one side had stamped writing on it. The chilton manual said that the stamped side was the engine side.

The ABS would not keep the brakes engaged. If one of the sensors was out, it would not be working at all. If you think it is the brakes dragging, you can check to see if the caliper slider pins are stuck, not allowing the caliper to retract.

Uh oh.

It should have had something like "Flywheel side" on it

I have read the forum a lot and that seems to be the most common assumption. If these symptoms are the same as a clutch plate on backwards then pleas specify.

Yes i agree, the clutch plate should have had some writing on it, but it didnt and im still very confident that i installed it correctly.

well, after reading over that very closely i think you all may be correct. I see where my mistake was. Following directions and not being smart about it. I was mislead by the manual when i should have just looked at the old clutch i took out. I definitely regret buying the manual now... Im going to go back under my car for a while.

Also, any thoughts on the ABS thing?

I would replace the ABS sensor that is destroyed, so that the system is functioning properly.

Thanks for the ABS info. Much appreciated.

So after a few hours of work i found my clutch plate was indeed backward. This is my first clutch replacement and i appreciate the feedback. Hopefully when i button it back up i have a SHO to drive around. (BTW the directions told me to put the clutch plate in wrong..so its not my fault, haha)

Thx again for the help.
