I have a 91 with about 140000 miles. Not sure exactly how many miles or what maintenence has been done, just recently bought the car. All I know for sure is that the clutch and halfshafts were just replaced, and a recall on subframe mounts was performed within the last year.

Occasionally, usually when going up a hill or at WOT when speed is too low for current gear, there is a rythmic sucking/clunking noise that repeats about once a second. It kind of sounds like something collapsing under a heavy vaccumm. It will do it about two or three times, but then it stops when I hit about 3500 rpms or if I downshift.

I know I need to do some tune-up work and maintnence,(60K, plugs and wires, plug well seals) just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and if they did, what it turned out to be, or not to be.

thanks

Mine also does that, and then has a sound like air under pressure escaping when I hit high rpms... I dunno what it is, but I'd like to fix it. I am gonna change the tensioner pulleys later this year, as I think they might be the culprit. I am also going to replace every vacuum line I can find! Good Luck!
