I am all for having a unique look for the SHO but please dont "rice out" the car. If you make the clear lenses and will have to have red bulbs installed. Alot of cars I have seen like that make the lenses look pink. If you just keep clear lenses and clear bulbs you are setting yourself up to be pulled over.

Oh... for a good laugh goto http://www.riceboypage.com/ and click on the "adventures" link. A friend of mine that has a Honda sent this to me.

Boiling them? NA just save time and use a torch carefully. it should only take about 5 mins that way.

Also when the lens catches on fire, well throw it on the front seat- because if your thinking of riceing out an American car your ******* should be chopped of and thrown in the fire as well.
HAHAHA!!

He said *******, too.

Hey, different strokes for differnt folks. I was thinking of tinting mine a little. Just too much red on a red car. No Altezzas here though.

PS. Should have talked to me when I was in High School, had more resin than I knew what to do with. wink JK

I am going to bed now, its late, I'm delerious.

It "might" work since plastic is porus and the color could leech out.

It'll either work or it'll warp all **** out of the tail lights as the plastic melts and deforms.. I have a plastic cup that is all bent to **** from not being dishwasher safe and the water isn't even boiling in there. You could boil the headlights because they are polycarbonate but the housings might warp.

I am a plastic injection mold designer and this idea of you guys "boiling" the tail lights in absolutley crazy. The plastic, which is an acrylic is 100% red and boiling will only soften, distort, then when the harden again they will be brittle and ruin your lights. I dont know this as fact, but I have been involved in plastics for over 20 years and I do know that these assemblies are expensive. I am interested in your results but I wont be trying it.

it is sad that altezzas, white outs, clears, whatever is now considered bad taste. the IS300 looks tight and the tails on the new Altimas are sweet as well. and some cars even look OK with Altezzas, but its so overdone that it make you want to puke when you see them. I cant believe APC made a business of seeling that crap. Im going to invent something thats disgustingly tacky and sell it to Honda drivers, is there anything left though?

I am a vacuum forming mold maker, different process, same principles.I have also done my share of injection molding. As i`m sure we can share from personal experience, when the resin enters the molder,it is heated to temps much higher than the hot water would get it,yet it retains the color.Worst case senario,if the water could reach such temps,it would harden the plastic to the point it would become brittle.

I just have one thing to say about this whole "Ricing" thing. Many of us know "ricing out a car" as changing the look into something that looks fast but isn't. Or atleast that's how all my friends look at it. Or if you want to say it is a Asian looking car, then you just stated that all Imports are rice no matter what. What is your deffinition of rice? Cause as me and all my friends know is that a SHO could never really be riced out. Maybe you could paint it really ugly, or have things that don't do anything but make the car look bad. But to me a SHO could never be defined as Rice. It could per say, look like Rice. But they are fast enough to the point that it could never be "rice speed." By that I mean it could take anything that runs like rice. But in by turn if you mean look rice, how would anyone know? It has never been done before and no one know's what it looks like. Just an opinion, don't hate me, and I am NOT DEFENDING RICE! I hate rice as much as the next SHOer. thumbs_u

I think of rice as **** shit you dont need on your car. gimmick type stuff.
-LED windshield squirters = rice
-Euro tails = rice (why are they usually called euro anyways?)
-tire flys (the little light things that attach to your valve stems) = rice
-big, huge 2 deck wangs = rice
-type R, GT-R, Se-R, Si on any car but the real deal (and I have seen some Domestics like that) = rice
-more vinyl than paint showing = rice

the list goes on and on, rice can affect any car at any given time. it is contagious, but there are ways to prevent it.

Look guys, I was the one that mentioned the "boiling" of the lenses, but for those that have read my prior posts, you all know that I myself didn't come up with the idea. I gathered this tidbit of info off of the internet. I've not tried it myself, just thought I would post it so others could decide what to do with THEIR cars. So what if someone does something to their car to make it unique? Is it going to affect your daily routine? Will it cause physical or mental harm to you? Everyone talks about rice this and rice that. How about thinking of it in a positive way.......they're fueling the American economy! thumbs_u

I've got Yamaha badges, hyper white Eurolites (both headlights and driving lights) and my car is dropped about an 1.5". Does that mean its riced?

Here's my 2 cents: I'm a car lover, I can appreciate ANY car (just about). I can appreciate a NICELY done Civic, or SE-R or Accord or Sunfire or BMW or ANYTHING. What I can't stand are the $2,000 cars with $5,000 stereo systems and $500 worth of stickers and $1500 worth of wings and body kit. I also hate anything that's obsurdly loud. (think harley without pipes)

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Not that anybody cares, but I think there are a lot of guys on here that don't reply because they know they'll get slandered for stating their opinion.

OK, my view.

I grew up in a place where you "pimped" out your car no matter what it was. Thing is your car was always a huge 60's - 80's American 4-door V8. (In my crew anyway...) And there wasn't thousands of dollars to throw on your ride (money went elsewhere back then :! :!) I will always fondly remember:

Huge custom real wood FULL-LENGTH rearview mirrors (made by that guy down the block)

The requisite dice on your tire stems....

Green interior lighting....

One guy did a chandelier in his car, took it out after hitting several PA potholes.... It was cool though.....

Ok, I've grown up some and I realize that my tastes are DIFFERENT (Ilove lowriders) and I do hate those 4" exhaust pipes and 2 feet body wings and Type-R stickers on Cavaliers..(I mean come on??) but I've seen some real well executed AND restrained body kits!!! I got a blue Gen2 and if I could find them, it would have clear rear lens caps....AND does anyone have white slicers for sale?? Curious as to how much you want................I guess I just said I like rice.(even if a tiny bit).....Who knew??????

PEACE

Well i can see it was a bad idea starting this post but being 18 and currently rooming in newark NJ i would have to say i see enough rice every day to feed a third world country. However i am fond of every car whether muscle car or import preferably imports. I mean i have all the neon decor in my SHO from the blue string neon around my sunroof molding on the inside to every lite being blue to the blue alien scanner on my windsheild and just about every other part of the car glowing blue (....stil need underbody kit...) I plan on doing vinyl and everything else but that is me i mean most of you grew up in the muscle car mustang age and thats what you find interesting i grew up around imports and what not. I can openly admit that i plan on ricing my SHO out to a certain extent (nothing insanly wild ie. lighted pipe tips LOL) but u ppl need to keep an open mind especialy since alot of the mods you do to your SHO's are also done to imports.

I`ll answer that before you get ripped apart. If you don`t know the motor isn`t american made, where do you thni the Yamaha comes from? The entire motor is made by Yamaha, the parts are were shipped to Atlanta where the SHO`s were assembled.

I don't see why you guys, who are so adimant about doing altezzas, just don't transplant another assembly by doing some fairly simple bodywork. Back when there were NO altezzas, they used the rear light assemblies off of the Toyota Supra. Cars like the Accord, Civic, and (maybe even the integra) took out their rear tail lights and grafted in the Supra's with some factory painted fiberglass pods. A lot of trick stuff has been done by the import crowds (even relocating gas caps, etc.) You guys who BITCH AND MOAN about how some of them look are missing part of the point. Some imports are done amazingly well, it's all of the 16-22 year old kids who TRY to be these $40k civics and fail miserably. After all, altezzas were made to be the REAL altezza KNOCK-OFFS... If you want the real thing, step up to the plate. Buy a pair of supra rear lights, or buy the REAL altezza rears. Even try and graft the old IS300 lights which were basically the same thing anyway. Instead of knocking rice, let's try and set a standard. Boiling lenses is not going to get you there, it's a unique try (and I commend you for that), but if you wanna get trick, ask some of the older guys who have 30's-50s Ford hot rods... They know the meaning of trick.

I hope I haven't sounded to biased... But if you want your ride to look "COOL", do something cool to it. Don't just add a knockoff. That's my .02 thumbs_u

•any mod that does not make the car faster can be rice. there are mods that don't make the car faster, and are not rice.
•rear spoiler moe than 4" high (called a wing)
"Cow catcher" front bumper, or wide-body kit
•absurdly large wheels and low-pro tires on a car that obviously doesn't need them
•more than 3 stickers/badges per side of the car or any sticker/badge that implies your car has an engine/modification that it doesn't
•painting of the headlights that effects lighting at night
•more than 4 lights for a "road car" cars without dual filiment headlights (ala early 90s t-bird and crown vic) are allowed 6.
•brake lights of any color besides red
•turn signals of color other than orange/yellow
•fake HID bulbs
•back-up lights of any color besides white
