I used aircraft stripper to clean an intake. Not the quickest way but it did do it.

When I did detail, I tried wheel acid. Using that stuff and a pressure washer makes it quick and easy.

Odd, I've got a painted intake that quite a few people at the convention thought was pc'd.

Talk is one thing, pictures are another!

It's like the girl at school who thinks she's hot stuff because her friends tell her she is to not hurt her feelings, but in reality she needs a make over.

It does look better than 100% painted intakes. How many miles do you estimate you've put on it and did you use a spray gun or rattle can? Most start off looking good then fade out, or just look like flat paint from the beginning.

I installed this right before the convention, so probably about 3-4k miles on it. My previous one, which I'll post a pic of also, was on the car for about two years and probably 60k miles (I drive a lot), and was still shiny and stuff.

Both were rattle can, paint and clearcoat. Parts were cleaned, bead blasted, primed, and painted. Scotchbrited and tack ragged between coats, especially the clear. One coat of primer, two coats of color, and four coats of clear. In all, probably about $20 worth of materials. Probably about 5 hours of labor to paint, but I did it between tasks at work so it worked out well.

PC definitely is the way to go for longevity, but I find myself getting bored with color schemes and wanting to change things often, the paint works out cheaper in the long run.

Well, I would assume the majority of painted intakes didn't go through the process like you did. That's why I stated what I did earlier in this thread. A simply sand, spray of color paint, followed by a clear coat will not do the trick alone! :nut:

You should invest in a powder coat gun and curing oven, since you already have the bead blasting access. You'll be pulling everything out and coating that engine bay up, all the way to everything you can remove from the car and fit in you oven! :naughty: (edit: doesn't take anywhere near 5 hours, either!)

I hear ya, and I know what you're saying. We see a lot of cars come through NESHO, and some stuff I gotta just hold back on. lol

I've thought about pc'ing equipment. It really would come in handy at the shop, and it's another service we could offer. I suppose I'll spend the better part of tonight on the Eastwood website.... :)

nice work. How long have your had your intake painted? No discoloring of the rattle can clear because of the heat?

I might go with a diff color scheme on my intake, and this time I might considering clearing it.

One of the nicest engine bays I've ever seen.

Thanks! The drivetrain's coming back out this winter, to clean up the engine bay some more. It really needs new paint, and plans are to weld up unused holes, and organize things a little more.

The silver and black intake (current) has been done since early July, installed the day before the Convention. It's my DD, and I average probably 300 miles a week or so. I'd guess it's probably been on there for 5k miles, and no yellowing or other deterioration of paint.

IMO, it's all in the prep.

Yes, that is the valve cover blinding you. Yes, you are getting an unusually good view of the coil pack.
