I've done several searches and haven't found any real information on actually getting the round oil seal out? I know it's behind the CID, but where? Do I just have to take the sensor off and it will be there, or is there more to take off? I've ordered the Felpro Kit and am planning on doing the job when it arrives so any direction would be really appreciated.

Ok, for one, do not use the Fel Pro seals. Get motorcraft seals. Then, remove the CID, CID housing, and the trigger for the CID. Then seal removal is easy. Trust me on the Fel Pro comment.

Whats wrong with Fel Pro? Do you mean that seal particularly or Fel Pro in general?

X2 do not use any Fel-Pro radial oil seals on the SHO, especially the CID seal! The OD is undersize, and they will shift out of position and leak within a few hundred miles. The OE Ford seals are only 10 bucks each with no shipping charges from your dealer.

I would not say the CID seal removal is all that easy. It is helpful to have an angle drill to make a hole in it. Harbor Freight sells a cheap angle die grinder kit with a 1/8" collet in it that makes a dandy drill. You should put a thin layer of RTV around the outer perimeter of the new seal, per the FSM. It is difficult to keep this particular seal straight going in. shophoenixproject levered it in. That didn't work for me. I tapped it in using a flat steel bar for a low clearance hammer.

An alternative approach to this job that sounds good to me is to remove the rear valve cover and then the camshaft cap over the CID seal. The seal is then easily accessible. Push the new seal in place with the previously mentioned RTV on it, and replace the cap, sealing it with RTV.

SASHO91, I'm in the same boat as you. I called my local Ford store yesterday and they didn't have any. I then called Autozone and was told they couldn't get them either. I finally called a NAPA store and they ordered the set for me from the FelPro factory in Wisconsin!! I appreciate the guidance guys. I'm doing the job as soon as the part arrives. Could RTV help in securing the gasket so it has less potential to leak?

Do not put the fel-pro seals in. They WILL leak. It's the inner part that leaks not the outer mating surface from seal to head. The inner part, seal to cam is too small. RTV is out of the question.

Cam Seal E9DZ-6700-A 3 req
Crank Seal E9DZ-6700-B 1 req

You may have to order them but they should be next day at any Ford dealer.

For the price of the Ford seals why go aftermarket?

Thanks Sho-N-Go. I just got off the phone with my local Ford store. They'll have the seal for me Monday. I'm off Tuesday so It'll be done and I can de-grease my engine.

Thanks for all the help guys. I don't know what I'd do without this forum!!

FWIW, I used felpro seals on everything, and have had no problems at all. It's been two years now. Maybe I got lucky! :shrug:

Yes. But consider there are no shipping charges, which evens things out a bit when compared to Rockauto's price plus shipping. And the total cost of $30 is a nit compared to the labor to redo the job when the lousy aftermarket seals leak.

Same here, not a problem. However, I clean up the cams with ScotchBrite pad before I install any seal.

The 1213N's are $5.49 a piece, no shipping.

I've put 3 of the fel-pro's in my dad's silver 95 with issues every time. I go by what I can rely on myself. Please note that this is an opinion, but forced by actually having to do it a few times :)
