Folks, I have a clunking under the hood. It happens sometimes when I accelerate from a stand-still, sometimes when I let off the accelerator, and sometimes when I turn (mostly left) at low speeds, especially when I turn and go over a bump.

The sound seems to come from the left side, but I can't be sure...

In checking for a bad mount, I notice the engine moves forward and backward about the same distance. The moving also seems to be uniform, that is, the passenger side does not lift more than the driver side...

The movement, I would say is about an inch upward in each case.

Could the clunking be a swaybar end link? Last time I needed to replace the driver side swaybar end link, the car notified me of the problem with a constant clunking, not a clunking like this...

Send Help!

Gary,
That definitely sounds like a motor mount to me. Replacing them isn't too difficult, and they aren't all that expensive as far as sho parts go.

With all of those symptoms present, I would check the subframe bushings. Mine were so bad the engine cradle could move 1" up and down in the front.

SuperG, I concur with Jay. I had the same symptoms, and new subframe bushings cured it. Don't procrastinate this. You don't want to drop the Yamahamer in the middle of the the street, do you?

FYI, bad SFBs can also leave rub marks on your manifold

Thanks everyone...Aluminum SFB's should be here any day now. I ordered them at the beginning of the week.

After that install, hopefully the clunk will be gone...

Sometimes I notice a light knocking. My cousin claims he can feel it through the floor. This to me makes me think I have a subframe bushing that could use some replacing. The car did have it's bushings replaced with the recall. I guess that's not good enough. The nut is damn tight. I checked it yesterday.

Hayden, I felt mine through the floor. Right under my left foot. If your cousin can feel it, it's your right-hand rear bushing that's bad. That's dangerous dude.
