Well i put the gauge on today at hot idle it is reading 10 psi and when i bring it up to 3000 it reads about 30 psi so is that ok or is it not good. another thing i replaced my o2 sensors three days ago and i think my idle dropped a little it is idleing at about 600 to 700 rpm what is the normal rpms for the sho.

Min oil pressure (hot) is 12.8 psi. It should rise 10 psi for every 1k rpm. Base idle speed for the SHO is 750 rpm.

Ten psig should be high enough not to trigger the pressure sender. The base idle speed is 850 rpm and is set by adjusting the throttle stop screw with the IAC valve and SPOUT unplugged. Don't worry, it's okay. You just need to reset the idle program. Search within the Forum on that procedure.

30psi at 3000rpm is a bit low. Hot, I get 50psi at 3k, with 12psi at idle. That's on a well used block, too.

It is a bit low, but it's enough that his engine won't croak 3 blocks down the road if he drives it. He'll probably be fine as long as he drives the car more like a SLO rather than a SHO.

May I ask what weight oil you are using to get these numbers?

I would recommend putting 10-30 in there instead of the 5-xx you were using. Did you change the oil weight or use the same stuff that was already in there when you got these numbers?

idle speed near 1K...probably 925-975rpm eek! ...at least that what I've had on 5 SHOs and 13 years and approx. 393K+ miles (overall)...correct me if I'm wrong.... eek! the only thing different between them all, was how long it took them to get there...2 owned from day 1. 3 bought used...you guess which ones, 89,90,91,92,92 eek! .

Per shotimes.com:

disconnect your battery negative terminal, turn the ignition switch of the car ON, press and hold the brake pedal for 30 seconds, reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Per sdpatt:

After doing the above, make sure all accessories are off. Start the car (turn radio off), Let the car idle by itself for 30 seconds without touching anything. IMPORTANT STEP: You have 70 seconds after you started the car to turn on all accessory loads: AC, fan to max, radio, press the brake pedal and hold, turn the lights on and high beams on, turn the steering wheel left and right.

I used to do just the first part that I learned on shotimes. The second part is important so the computer learns to bump up the idle when there are loads on the engine. Thanks to Scott for educating me on that second step! :)
