Hello. I have a lean code 172 and 176. I replaced the fuel pump and took care of the fuel pump code. The O2 sensors have been replaced. The MAF is a replacement 55mm. The exhaust smells rich and I get 18 mph. The check engine light is constantly on. What's the problem? Its a 95 ATX. The 60k service has been done by Fred Hurder at NESS. No other codes.

With both O2 sensors showing lean, your engine probably is running lean. Something is amiss in the engine control system or you have a vacuum leak. You will need to do more investigation. Clear the memory codes by running the KOEO test and pulling the jumper while the CE light is flashing.

You mentioned the MAF sensor. Was it replaced and then the CE light illuminated? If so, unplug the electrical connector at the MAF and start the engine. Do the lean codes show up? If so, your replacement MAF is suspect. If not, check for that vacuum leak.

Are you sure the only codes are the O2 sensor codes? The fuel pump code. Could that have been the 542 or 543? Those could show up if the engine had stalled.

It was the 543 fuel pump code. Fred ran the codes when he did the 60k. It runs fine, except for the exhaust smell and mpg. It was running 21mpg and I'm not driving differently; mainly highway miles. If I look for vacuum leaks what should I look for? The MAF was recently replaced, but the check engine light has illuminated since last year-I bought the car in Aug.

Thanks for the vacuum line info. I'll check next week day off. Might as well clear the codes.
