Check engine Light on; Running Rich

1993 3.2L; 85K - The "check engine" light comes on after about 10 minutes. the motor runs rich, there is black residue at the exaust pipe ends. No black smoke when running. Failed emissions. The car runs real well, plenty of get up and go,computer code said that there was an issue with the following devices; O2 sensors, EGR valve. EGR Valve solinoid, fuel pump - replaced all but the fuel pump - no good. Light still comes on. Could the fuel pump cause this CAN'T IMAGINE HOW. This is a replacement motor, Compression great, Heads inspected -very good, 100K tune up done when swapped out i.e timeing belt, thermostat, water pump, valve adjustment, cam pos. sensore, crank sensor. Checked all wires, hoses, did not measure vacuum but there seesm to be no leak. Origanal motor over heated and blew the head gasket.

Any takers? and sugestions? I have been all over this motor, there is a fuel mixure problem somwhere, has anyone had or have seen this probelm.

Engine codes

I used a small hand held computer from autozone - not the best I know. It gives you flashes that you count. Along with the unit comes a manual which translates these flashes. I'll go back and get the codes and post them. This has been "confounding to me" I have done everything that used to correct the problem in times past. I'm hopeing someone says "Oh yeah - I had that problem - check this or that.

Codes can be read with nothing more sophisticated than a paper clip.

Until we see the codes, there isn't much reason to speculate.

Also, post your failing emissions readings so that we can see what failed. Also, give the "PASS" criteria.

The problem with that is, any number of things can cause it... You'll wind up having people just throwing ideas at you.
