I was driving in very, very heavy rain last night. This morning I remote started the car and after depressing the brake to start driving the "Check AWD" warning came on. I immediately restarted the car and the fault was not present and it hasn't been on after about 10 miles of driving. Driving felt normal.

The PTU oil was changed about 3k ago on this 2018 that has 12k on it.

The manual doesn't provide much information on the fault other than to contact the dealer. I'll take it in if it comes back on but has anyone seen this come on before or know of a reason why other than the PTU failing?

Was there a noticeable amount of 'ponding' on the road? A good amount of water can trigger a sensor for more than one reason. I would clear the code from memory and see if it pops again. However, since you have a 2018 under original warranty, if it makes you feel better take it in.

Thank you for that . I don't believe I was in any water as deep as the the low part of a rim but maybe a sensor thought that was the case. I better take it in .

The fact the Light hasn't returned makes me think it wasn't a significant issue as presumably it would come back on .

There are probably DTCs set that will enlighten you. Remember the AWD system is not all mechanical. Since it was on start up and not an overheat message, I would bet the car is seeming an electrical fault.

The PCM operates and AWD module (heavy duty realy) that controls the ATC (active torque coupeling) clutch that is bolted to the pinion of the rear differential.

If you have a Perf.Pack I dont know if a temp sensor fault will set an awd fault, or wrench light of the top of my head.

Yes it's a PP and it was the AWD fault not the wrench. I'll get the codes just to make sure there hasn't been any damage or remedial action is required

Did you ever get it checked as to why?

Nope. Just chalked it up to electrical gremlins.
Never an issue, I have the torque app constantly running a check for codes periodically. Never sets an actual DTC.

Had it happen to me twice this weekend back to back starts. It was raining as well. I checked for codes on my LiveWire. None were present. Went way.
