I think sdpatt has over 250,000 miles on his... but you must consider that his has been the most meticulously well maintained sho for all the days of its life.

Mine is a youngster around here with only 209.5K miles.

Hoever, a $500 dollar car won't likely stay a $500 car for long if you start repairing all the broken, worn out, and neglected crap. See my signature for an understated example.

He probably means the timing belt, which means a ton of other stuff. A clutch will cost you $300 or so in parts if you do it yourself, $800 or more if you have a shop do it.

Better see if you can get him to GIVE you the car, it isn't worth $500 as it will cost you a small fortune to put things back together.

Of course, if you do your own work, the damage isn't as bad. If I had paid retail rates for everthing repaired on my "$200 Special", the tally would probably exceed $4000 in labor alone.

yeah i was thinkin that. but the body is in wicked nice shape other than a small crease in the door and fender from where someone backed into it and a couple paint chips on the under lip of the trunk. its got high mileage for a 92 but i think it was a college car cause it has those college stickers in the back window, so im also wondering about how bad its been abused

Body in great shape? If you are good at wrenching, go for it! Sounds like a good project car.

There's one on here, I forget who it is, and the guy's got about 310,000 on it. He got it from a lawyer, who must have had an awefully long commute!
