Hello all, I have a 99SHO with charging problems. I replaced the alternater because the old one had a bad bearing. Very loud sqeeling. The new alternater fixed the noise but, will not charge. I checked the wiring and fuses. Also checked the voltage at the **** fuse. Everything lookes good, still no charge. Charged the battery and it will run untill it goes dead. I'm trying to sell, but not untill I get this fixed. I used an Advanced Auto lifetime alternater.(palladium I think)

i would have to say its wiring or a fuse. but if your positive its not then it must be the alternator. i have heard of a few times ppl bought remanufactured things from car stores like this, only to find out that they dont even work. i would take it back and have them test it. theres a chance you just got a bad unit.

Dead alternater! Put on a new one, and it's charging great. I did notice the battery light flashing at 5500rpm's and above. Any ideas?

Yup, it's a Windstar alternator. Keep your receipt handy for the next warranty exchange in a few months. :thumb:

From what I can tell the difference is the pulley size. I bet your's is ~57 mm or so. Ford also has a 62 mm and a 74 mm pulley. Both of these would slow the alternator down and is what you need to do.

I'm not sure the pulley is to blame. I've got the proper pulley and flashing battery light. Two different regulators (three if you count the Transpo that didn't charge at all) and even a brand new Ford alt and it still flashes at me over 5000 rpm.

I even asked them if it was a Windstar unit and they assured me it was for the SHO. Won't be the first time Auto dummies didn't know what they were talking about.
