Unfortunately Ford didn't see fit to install a drain plug for the MTX. I think they figured that the fluid was a 100k mile change, which is longer than most of the clutches last.

Aside from removing the trans, there really are only two ways of draining the fluid. One is sucking it out through the fill hole. I have never tried it.

The second is installing a drain plug as per the instructions on shotimes.com. I have the tap, drill bit, and drain plug but have not done this yet. It is relatively straightforward to do so.

If you do go ahead with the tranny fluid change, try Red Line D4. It will improve the gear shifting somewhat (Still not Honda-like but an improvement). The stuff is not cheap, about $8-9 a litre. My '94 owner's manual states the transaxle capacity as 6.1 quarts but it's wrong. I believe they meant 6.1 pints which works out to about 3 litres. You can check with a repair manual to confirm this.
By the way, I also found the info about the camber kit we talked about Saturday.

There is a plug high up for filling it. I believe the tranny is supposed to be filled to that level.
However, it would be extremely difficult to drain it from there because you would have to have a small hose and suck it out of that point.
The drain plug that everyone mentions is another one lower down that would drain it quickly.

Yes. Aamco is wrong. There is no drain plug.

Some of the MTX cars have a bolt underneath that locates the shifter parts. I would not risk removing it to try to drain the transmission.

What about removing one axle (cv-joint), wouldn't that drain the majority of fluid and be easier than removing the tranny?
