A while back I bought a full Ford factory replacement leather interior. The only problem is that it is black and my car has the mocha interior. I bought it cause I couldn't pass up the deal ($350). My front seats are shot. So I started thinking... You know there is already a lot of black in the interior. Dash, around the radio, door handles, etc.

So I am going to replace my front/rear seats with the black interior and I also want to replace the mocha carpet with black carpet, to better blend with the seats. I am also going to replace the upper door inserts with black to give them the two tone look.

Do you think this will look ok? Don't they do two tone interiors in VW's and such.

Where is a good place to get quality black carpet for the interior?

They sell headliner kits and carpet sets... I think it's like $130 for a carpet kit and $40 for a headliner kit.

Dunno how the quality of the carpet is.. if you wanna invest in their carpet, I'd suggest asking for a sample to compare the weight of material to the SHO's carpet.. I've heard (dunno if it's hearsey) that the SHO got a thicker carpet than the SLO's of the same year. This aftermarket stuff is probably just as good as ours since I'm sure it's an upgrade to whatever came stock.

Hey, how is your existing leather? I'm interested in at least recovering the upright part of my rear seat since it's all shrunk from the sun. Let me know both here and in an email at [email protected] because my email is acting stupid lately.

What a coincidence! thumbs_u

I am actually considering almost the same thing. I am looking at changing from the Grey interior of my '93 Midnight Blue, to the black interior of the '93 Black/ Black. Dash, Carpet, Door skins, everything. I am tired of the Grey look, and am in need of some sort of change, so I figured this would be a good idea.

Now I just gotta FIND the stuff!

You could probably dye yours since you're going from light to dark color... www.colorplus.com has some of the best leather care and dye products.

I did exactly that over the winer.I had full leather mocha interior, but now it`s all black.I got a new carpet, relined the headliner, and got black seat belts.Pretty much all of the plastics were dyed/painted with paint specifically designed for that purpose. The cost can add up quite quickly of you don`t know exactly what you are getting into, and it`s alot more work than you would think. The biggest issuee was the seats.I was going to dye them, but with all the wear they get,i was afraid it wouldn`t hold up.Last Saturday i was lucky enought to get full black leather from Mark Nunnally at a rediculous price. The passengers side and rear seats look new.I wouldn`t be suprised if the back was never sat it.All in all,if i had it to do over again,i would in a heartbeat.I absolutely LOVE the black interior!!If i can be of any help, let me know.

Do you still have your mocha interior? Think the rear seatback would possibly fit a Gen 2?

Jeff,

My rear seat is mint! Nobody hardly sits back there and the leather is not faded or cracked anywhere. The front seats are another story. My car only has 70,000 miles and the front seats are getting nasty looking. Something must have been wrong with my leather because on the front seat backs, the finish is coming off, and the leather is sticky. I use lexol leather care products but, in my others SHO's the leather sucked also. The headrests are the only thing in excellent shape. I will email you.

Now there's something I didn't think about, the seatbelts. I guess I am going to have to get black belts cause the tan belts would look kinda funny against the black seats, especially in the back. The front might not be too bad since when there off they are against the tan sides.

Anybody have any black belts?

I have the front black belts from the 89, gone now that I have the corbeau's and the 5 pts. Not sure if they'd fit a gen2 or not, probably the same.

[email protected] if you want to try them.

Dunno how many folks sat in that back seat, but it went down the 1/4 a few weekends back in 13.9 sec, so it outta be worth a few tenths on your car :D

I would suggest going all black rather than two tones. I am in the process right now of changing my plus from a crappy tan to a very nice black along with racing seats and some selective weight loss.

It`s very sad that the rear seat went faster than anything else in the car ever will :D
While i was dyeing the door panels,i did do a 2 tone to see what it would look like.IMO,it would really look good, but i wanted to go full black for the darker look. All black was what i wanted, but the 2 tone would look great if you want to try it.

I'm actually thinking of keeping a somewhat 2-tone interior.

Keep: Steering wheel, console, seat belts, & grey "SHO" logo on dash.

Replace: Front and rear seats, headliner, dash.

I will have to SEE all the parts before I know which way I'm going to do it, but in my head, it all looks nice.

All this is going to happen over an extended time frame, so I can accumulate the parts I think I need. Will post as it starts happening.

PS,
I wouldn't dye stuff anyways, too much chance of the stuff wearing or fading out too quick I would think. IMHO, YMMV.

Be careful with the headliner. It was put in the car before they assembled the roof. You can get it out the doors, but it`s very tricky, and you have to bend it quite a bit.Mine broke in a few places, but the liner and moldings hold it in place.

Try moving 70 ft of tubing in and out of the car, bending it, and TIG welding it 2 inches from the headliner and not burning it (using "heat shields" in between).

So far so good, but I'll be amazed if the headliner makes it throug the cage with no major wounds!

Doesn't the headliner add unnecessary weight? :)

I'm going to be removing and replacing mine very soon... that reminds me that I should be ordering a fabric kit too... the link for carpet I posted has a section to order headliner kits for like $35... my headliner literally looks like the floor of Death Valley.

I changed over my interior to full black leather from a 90 SHO. I previously had a mocha interior but the seats were ripped. I redid the head liner in the same mocha but left the carpets and such as is. The interior was already two tone, so I figured it wouldn't matter. I am happy with it. Let me know if you want to see some pics.

Sorry about the late response, but I've been busy with school all week. This is right after I did the swap. I didn't have time to clean it and I also had the front drvier seat redone. It was slightly torn. Leather conditioner cleaned up the whole thing. Just for the idea of what it would look like, these should do.
