Fad? Worth the money and effort? Anyone seen a car with it in real life? Anyone done it?

Had it on my Mustang for a couple years before I sold it. I wouldn't do it myself but if you can find someone reputable to do it for a good price its worth it. It'll pay for itself the first year

I did it on my SHO. If they paint doesn't need correcting you COULD try it yourself..... But I usually recommend having it professionally done.

I used Adams polishes. They have a new version of the product that uses UV light to see where it's applied, and more importantly, where it's not (any spots you missed or laid it too heavy).

You won't believe the difference (look AND feel). It actually FEELS soft to the touch.

Absolutely worthwhile. I've had all my vehicles done, except the ZJ.

If I might ask...how much was it to have it professionally done?

In NC, my guy will do it for around a grand (paint, wheels, glass) and it comes with a 7 year warranty. Depending on the time of the year and how busy he is, he's offered for as low as $750. I've seen it go for much higher ($1,500+) but he treats us right so he'd be the only one I'd call.

I'm a believer. I've treated all our cars with Enviroshield by DuraGloss. There's a cleaning product that goes on like an old school wax....wipe on- buff off. Then, apply the coating. Spritz onto the applicator and apply to surface. As you apply it, it will disappear. Move onto the next area.

It's supposed to last two years. I try to take good care of my stuff, so the real test is my wife's EcoSport. She's less than, well, particular. I don't wash her car all that often...but after a rain it looks like it was washed.

I completely believe in the nano-ceramic coatings. However, after my (short and long ago) time working for Ziebart, they're more short term presentation over long term results. My feel (after many years away from them) is that there is merit to the products and approaches, but the pressure on their franchisees to produce results (throughput) over rode the best intentions of the franchise owners to do good service for their customers. In my experience, Ziebart (corporate) didn't really care about what happened when the customer took their car out of the shop. That part was left to the local franchisee to deal with. Not a great business model for long term relationships.

I am on the fence with the ceramic coatings. I purchased my SHO in March, low mileage 2018 with 9K on it, so I took it to my local shop and for $300 they put on the "1 year" package. It looked amazing and has most certainly protected my paint last winter. Last month I used the booster spray to re-coat the paint. Once again, not bad. I did notice one blemish from the original install so I used cleaner wax to remove it which it did. I then decided to wax the hood just for ***** and giggles as it hasn't been looking the best lately. WOW. There is the deep shine that I have been missing. So though old school wax isn't nearly as durable, boy do I miss it. Because it's time consuming, my plan is every time I wash the car I am just going to wax a portion of the car afterwards, maybe the front doors. Then I can compare the look over time. Pretty sure before the snow flies I will take it in and get it coated again just to be safe because the science makes sense to me.

I had to look up the current Collinite 845 & 476 waxes, as years back, they were pure carnauba, which is only good for cars that never see the elements, and lasts about a week out of a car cover.

Looks like they've added polymer to their formulations. The folks who enjoyed waxing their cars every two weeks are, well, mostly dead.

Personally, I like NXT, a full polymer wax, for the once a year exercise in torture! Yeah, I don't do car shows!
