I have a 1994 with FActory tape player only. I don't want to lose the tape player can I just add a factory cd player and rewire? Or am I better just getting rid of the tape player and buying aftermarket? If I go aftermarket will I lose my controls on the dash? Any info will be usefull thanks.

Some SHO's came with a factory CD that slaves off the cassette deck. You can connect the two of them and then still have use of the high mount controls. Try the WTB section some people may have one around.

They are on ebay all the time. Just make sure to get BOTH wiring harnesses. Look for "slave cd player" They were also in 94-99 Mustangs.

The 94-99 Mustangs had green displays while Gen II SHO's have blue. If you don't mind the conflict in color displays then the Mustang setup may be the way to go. I got annoyed trying to find a blue Taurus or Sable slave CD player with the wiring harness I needed. Many people have the slave but no wires for it, or they cannot guarantee that it will work. Jelloslug informed me you could put a Ford CD player in that was used on other models during the 90's. They are plug and play.

I have found Probes and Aspires have to correct color display. The display is blue and all the dash buttons still work in conjunction with this radio. Contours, Thunderbirds and Explorers used the same radio, but the display is green. You lose the tape, but keep the tray below the head unit. You can always cannibalize them too change the display color. Jelloslug has experience doing this.

I stand corrected about the mustang display color. Sorry for the misinformation.
It's easy to confuse the colors since Ford switched them from green to blue to green in so many cars. It's even worse when someone that has never seen both colors and they thing the blue is the green color (it's really more of a teal color).
