ok i think ill just take the amp outta the trunk and mount it somewhere else, maybe the glove box or something.

do i actually need the amp? is that a big part in making the sound so good from the factory speakers?

Have you ever installed an aftermarket radio before? It already has an amp inside of it. All you are doing is running wires to the trunk and splicing it into the factory wiring that goes to the speakers. The amp gets chucked and is not even used anymore.

You also have to run an extended antenna wire up to the front to the new radio, so you can pick up stations.

And if you want more amps (Sub amps, 4 channel amps, 2 channel amps, etc.) you need to run RCA cables back from the aftermarket radio up in the dash/glovebox/etc.

I'll make a SHO radio installation for dummies drawing later today in paint. Hopefully it makes sense...

oooh i think i get it now, the amp that is usually built into a factory radio isnt built into this one, its in the trunk so when i put in an aftermarket one in i wont need that amp because its the same damn thing!

thanks for clearin that up, ive installed cd players before but for some reason i was confused about how this worked... im used to gm shit

ok so i can actually unplug the harness that runs all the speakers to that amp and run the harness up to the glove box, cut off the connector and splice the wires together?

Alright I made up a "rough" drawing on Paint. Use it as reference and ask questions after you've looked it over.
V8SHORadioHookup

You'll also need this to hook into the factory antenna:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HqrRynE6bG0/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=119400&I=12040FD10

As well as plenty of antenna cable that can be bought at a car audio store.

Red=Ignition Switched Power
Yellow=Constant Power
Black=Ground

Speaker wires in radio harness -> Extra speaker cable -> Spliced into rear harness
http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/SpeakerWiringColorCoding.htm

Blue=Remote Amp turn on
RCA's Patch Cable -> Amp(s)

Radio -> Antenna Extension -> Ford Specific adapter -> Factory Antenna

This is all I can think of now :nut:

Don't put the amp in the glove box :nono: And I think you'll run into a lot of problems if you put the radio there. I thought about it but it would take alot of work, plus a pain to adjust the radio on the fly.

ya i realized after looking at the amp that it was bigger than i thought, and the only reason im putting the cd player in there is because i have a remote i can use for it

so i need to find my own power source? can i use what the factory amp used for power? if not what is a good source to tap into and what would be the right way to do it so i dont melt anything

I did, I like to be in control of everything, so the only negative thing is that my radio only powers on/off by holding the on/off button. It does not turn on or off with the ignition switch.

I'd still really suggest putting it in the ashtray, but do as you wish.
